Luluc serves my favorite salad - grilled shrimp with white beans, spinach and aoli. I crave it. It is the first place my husband wants to go for brunch. The food is solid. Not flashy, not spectacular, but reliably delicious, which is what you want in an ideal neighborhood place. This is where I can go on my one day off, chill out, have a good meal in a cute environment, get lost in the racks of free magazines, get some work done, or share a meal with a friend. BarTabac is noisy, Robin des Bois has uncomfortable seating, Patois is closed and was overpriced, but Luluc, ah, where would I be without you?

CAFE LULUc, 214 Smith Street, Brooklyn, AVOID!

I visited this restaurant for a late night dinner after flying across the country. Three bites into my meal, I found a cigarette butt in my entree which the waiter verified as such. I refused a replacement entree. When I informed the restauranteur that I would be leaving, she tried to charge me and my date for our meals and would not let us leave without paying for at least our drinks.
Unless you're interested in an ashy dish and zero concern for the quality of the food or the well-being of the diner, AVOID!

The food and service here are excellent. It can get a bit crowded during brunch time on Sundays and dinners on Thu - Saturday so come early. The crowd is typical Cobble Hill - 30somethings with strollers.

Luluc is where my wife and I always seem to end up on Smith Street. It's obne of those places to go on a date when it's not the biggest occasion. If you're looking for a good meal, at a good price Luluc is perfect. With everything else on Smith Street being either trying too hard, costing too much, or being a bit fancy, Luluc serves excellent bistro style food in a friendly non-stuffy atmosphere. They could use ten or so more tables, but then you might lose the charm of the place.
They have a beet and pear salad that rocks, and all their entrees are solid.
Cash only though.

The thing I hate: they only accept cash

I have lived in the neighborhood for many years and finally decided to take a seat in this small cafe. I should have walked out immediately upon encountering the rude and unaccommodating wait staff. Against my better judgment, I remained and ordered. The food was greasy and bland. I walked out with a lighter wallet and a stomach ache - do not recommend.

We were looking for a Smith Street restaurant to accommodate four people with different palates and wallets. Luluc fit the bill, offering a bistro-ish menu at very reasonable prices - entrees $2-3 less than its neighbors and $5-6 less than in Manhattan. The food was as good as any I've had at pricier restaurants downtown or in Brooklyn. I understand why the guy sitting next to me said he goes almost every night.

Cafe Luluc is an extremely charming restaurant - best brunch in the BK. Take it from a long-time pancake maker - they have the best "plain" pancakes (topped w/ berries)in the city! And if you are not in the mood for those, the omlette is wonderful as well as the Tiger Shrimp salad. sandwiches look wonderful and i'll be going back to try those too! Also, they take no platic, so the prices are great. Go kinda early because they become very crowded the later it gets into the afternoon.
