This place never disappoints me. Ive been going to cafeteria for years and its still as good as when it first opened. I totally love the ppl and the atmosphere this place has and its great for celebrity spotting day or night! Besides the decor the food is great as well. My favorite dishes are the seared tuna, mac of course, and the mussels for apps and for entres i vassilate btwn the meatloaf and ranch steak, so freaking good!!!! If you have never been def go check it out!!!!

This is my new favorite restaurant in NY. Since my first visit a few weeks ago, I have been taking all of my worthy friends. Brunch is to die for. Order the silver dollar pancakes as an appetizer so that you can also order egg dishes (skip the omelettes and go for the crabcake benedict or veggie tower). And/or consider getting the mac 'n' cheese (best in town) to share with the whole table...everyone will want a bite and at these prices, why not? For those of you who like to dine with the stars...I had lunch last weekend at the table next to Hugh Jackman. He had to host the Tony Awards later that night so it's clear he wanted a fabulous meal to put him in a fabulous mood! Cafeteria is just the place (can you tell its my new favorite???)

I go to Cafeteria with coworkers like once a month - it's kinda become our regular joint. We usually go friday nights, and there's almost always a wait, but its worth it. Their bloody mary has some fire, love the spice! For apps its always the Mac and cheese (AMAZING - especially the truffle one) and the ribs which literally fall off the bone. Last time I went, I tried the chicken tagellio which was d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s. We usually end the night with two orders of fried oreos (they're like Lays - you can't eat just one) and the apple pie ravioli which I have yet to see (or taste) anything like it anywhere else . . . After re-reading this now I'm hungry again!
A "MUST" Taste Spot in The City!!!

The Cafeteria is an excellent place to go eat. Especially after a night out in Manhattan, and you want GREAT food! Unlike these other reviews, the service is not horrible. The staff is very friendly and curtious. I haven't come across any "snobby" staff members yet and I've been there over 20 times. The macaroni and cheese is a MUST HAVE when you go there. Try it for yourself. Give it a chance. You won't regret it.
Fun for after hours

Bomb food and interesting people. The bathrooms are dirty though....

I will say this, the food is fabulous, the service is great, everyone is very friendly - just mind the lemonades, they are quite tart and the bloody mary's are not like cesears sooo it all depends on what you like though. I stayed in NYC for 3 days and my friend and I went here for breakfast every day - we were walking to SOHO and wanted breakfast, saw the place, went in and kept going back everyday! The weekends are far more packed, especially during brunch so do expect a bit of a wait (30 min), but i'll be honest - its totally worth it. Do try the calamari salad - had that 2 days in a row - its a god send!
First Time in NYC
By dmaynor on 1/26/2009
This rest. was recommended to me when I visited NYC for my first time in Jan. 2009. The mac n' cheese was good, but not as great as I had expected it to be. I LOVEd the salad wedge, AWESOME. Drink prices were significantly higher than other rest. in the area. Overall, a good place to eat, with interesting people to watch. :) NOT bad for a North Carolina girl!!!

Good mac and cheese but definitely not worth the hype. Great drinks though!

On the fly, some friends and I decided to stop by here for an early dinner a couple of weeks ago... it was a happy accident! I highly recommend the Wildberry Mojito. The Tomato Basil Soup grilled cheese croutons was very satisfying and the little cheese croutons, were a delightful addition. The Autumn Green Salad was outstanding. The "Mac Attack," an appetizer of 3 types of macaroni and cheese, cheddar and fontina, gouda and bacon, and truffle oil, was just ok. The Grilled Turkey Burger was mouth watering! And the Braised Short Rib Sandwich melted in your mouth. The service was very good. They were able to accommodate us right away.

I went here for one of those "let's try a new restaurant" type days. I waited for waiter to come over and then took a while for the drink to arrive but after that it was smooth sailing. The waiter was very attentive and checked on me within every 5-10 minutes. But a downside is that the service wasn't all too great. The food was superb and the drinks were amazing, I think I would go back to give it another try. I mean the waiters were good looking and that is another reason to go back.
