Stumbled across Campo de Fiori on a Friday night out after Union Hall and was pleasantly surprised by the casual atmosphere of the place. We were immediately greeted when we walked in by a very friendly Italian man who I think is the owner of the place. Our waiter was very patient with us as we asked questions about the menu. Ended up getting the pizza margherita and a sausage and potatoes dish and thought both were REALLY delicious.

Hands down, best carbonara I've ever had at this place. Leave it to a true Roman style restaurant to give you your first real carbonara experience. I found the service to be fast and the wait staff was very friendly.

Finally another great (and real) Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. As an Italian I can assure you that Campo is as authentic as it gets. Imported DOP/DOC ingredients (meaning with origin control and certification), carefully cooked all with the right amount of sauce, salt and especially cook time (referring especially to the pasta/gnocchi). The pizza has just the right amount of cheese and sauce/toppings. My friends, pizza is not supposed to be covered in cheese and oozing all over the place. The pasta is not supposed to be floating in sauce...it's supposed to be lightly covered in it. ...etc Also, Campo's pizza is Roman style meaning slightly thicker and not circular, so don't expect a super thin round pizza. (it's actually great to get 2 or 3 and share them) On top of that, the owner Andrea is a real gentleman who loves good food and loves what he does. He will explain to you all the ingredients, where they come from and what all the acronyms (referring to origin and certifications) mean. He's got some great wines and everything is reasonably priced. It has become our go to restaurant in the neighborhood and to be truthful in NY. We never venture into Manhattan for Italian as the food at Campo de Fiori and Al Di La across the street are the two best in my opinion (and most relaxed) Italian places we've found in NY so far. Delicious pizza! Not your typical "fancy pizza"--though it is fancy. Definitely worth trying. Less pretentious than Fanny's and some other local specialty pizza places--and not the same ridiculous wait. Great wine specials, friendly staff. New menu, too!

The pizza is fantastic -- especially the ones topped with arugula or lettuces -- and everyone I've eaten here with has been happy and satisfied. The portions are a little strange; the waiters will recommend sharing but, really, a hearty appetite can tackle a personal pizza, no problem.

The food is tasty and specially the pizza which is unfortunately not worth of waiting more than 1 hour. We arrived at the restaurant for brunch and the place wasn't crowded. It took 45 min for them to bring us some bread. Then another 35 min to get the food. NOT KIDS FRIENDLY Slow waiter or chef ( I couldn't quiet figure it out) maybe both. I Love my neighborhood and always praise good restaurants. Sadly this is not one of them.

The interior decoration is reminiscent of a restaurant in a strip mall serving an elderly center. It is clean, spacious, but devoid of character or atmosphere. It looks like the interior was simply purchased in a nearby outlet: some tables, some chairs, some shelves. Then pick up some "Italian looking" things and put there. A few plastic plants for effect. On the table there were the kind of brown paper towels you used to find in the bathrooms of schools and hospitals. The floor next to our table was cleaned with fierce-smelling detergent as we sat there. The music was a random selection of power ballads from the 80s, and some other songs. There is no coherent aestic vision, taking the place to anything higher than the most basic: clean, nice enough for those who are not bothered by the sterile strip-mall feel or the random bad pop music. The pizza had a nice crust. But there was very little of anything on it. A couple of pees, perhaps the slices adding up to 2 mushrooms! When I bake a mushroom pizza I would use half a carton, and I would season them with garlic and olive oil. Not so Impressive. The gnoccis were nice. It was all much too expensive. There are amazing pizza places close to it.
