Ooh la la........

The Gumnut Babes are still fantasizing about the relaxed, spacious and elegant atmosphere of the Capsouto Freres restaurant. The food is another story altogether… We welcomed the experience of the charming waiter to make our menu selections and we were not disappointed. The chance at Escargot as an appetizer and succulent veal, roast duckling and tuna as mains were of amazing quality. However, the most drooling moment was the finale of Hazelnut soufflé…………….. Oh my!!! We would certainly recommend this as an intimate dining experience for people who enjoy peacefulness and excellent food.

Old, Reliable and joyous

Having been a customer for almost twenty years, this is where I celebrate my birthday every year. And fellow diners have enjoyed its spacious dining room where you can hear each other speak and even bring your kids or sit on the terrace with a date in the summer, so much so, that they come back in their own lives. Reliable French Homecooking, excellent service and a friendly, welcoming, high end, but not too stuffy atmosphere is the key here. Run by the three Capsouto Brothers, in an unobtrusive manner, the food is some of the best the city has to offer but is not priced in the stratosphere, (although it feels like it should). Although you go for the amazing stanbys like the sald Belle Chaumiere garnished with Mandarin Orange & nuts w/homeade dressing, Filtet Mingon that you can never replicate at home and of course the amazing Souflees you order prior to dinner, (hazlenut is a must as is the blood orange when available), they always have surprise specials for those who want to try something new. Come and celebrate a birthday, a date or just another day in life. go home satisfied, and not broke.

Our first time was a delightful surprise! Good food, nicely presented, and you still had money left over. I had the duck, others had the halibut and the ravioli and all of us raved. Try the hazelnut soufle...oh, so good! Pleasant and helpful staff. Very handsome place. A winner!

Went last night for the first time and I'll definitely be back! While the neighborhood is a bit intimidating, the decor is terrific and the food outstanding, particularly given the moderate (for Manhattan prices). Terrific service and a surprisingly elegant price fixe at dinner! What a nice surprise!

Their pre-fix lunch is an amazing deal. Service is very attentive & professional. Space needs to be updated though.

This is a wonderful restaurant. We had our engagement dinner here and our families from out of town loved, as did all our friends from the city. The food is great and the family atmosphere tones down the chic tribeca attidtude to a comfortable level.

The first time I entered Capsouto, I was completely surprised. You would never expect to find such a serene and attractive place amongst the UPS warehouses near the Holland Tunnel. I have been back for many special occasions and it is a favorite place to take out-of-town guests. You can actually have a conversation and the tables are not packed together. They have a great brunch menu, an extensive wine/drink list, and consistently yummy food. As a vegetarian, it is hard to find a place to please both carnivores and plant/dairy eaters. They have always been extremely accomodating of my needs and the dessert souffles are excellent! Great place for a date or a small party of friends.

Cher Capsouto Freres

In TriBeCa for nearly thirty years, Capsouto Frèresmay not be the best restaurant you've ever visited, but it certainly will rank among the most delightful. Decor is elegant and casual at the same time, and although the destination may be off the beaten path, the menu is stocked with familiar French standards such as duck confit, steak au poivre and steak frites. Skip the artichoke du maison (one of the few over-priced and disappointing appetizers) but DO order a souffle for dessert at the start of the meal. Hazelnut is the owner favorite. The overall feel of Capsouto Frères is old world complete with generously spaced tables, ample but not too bright lighting and lace curtains. A fantastic place for a quiet, understated romantic dinner or lovely brunch with the family.

Our group was seriously misled, resulting in a bill that was hundreds of dollars more than expected. The managers were arrogant and dishonest in handling the situation… The website offers a $35 fixed price menu. Our group arranged in advance for the fixed price menu and at the restaurant, we were offered menus similar to the one on the web. When our bill came we found instead that we had been charged full a per dish rate and the per person food bill was double. We were told that some of the items offered on our menu were not included as part of the fixed price and therefore they couldn’t offer the fixed price rate. After 30 minutes of number crunching the management offered to provide us the food portion at an increased rate of $45/head. The group waited for over an hour to get our revised bills and coffee that never came. When our credit card slips did return they had added back 90% of the costs they told us they were discounting.

I tried this restaurant during restaurant week and regular dinner prices. A failure everytime. This place relies on tourists and those who don't know any better about fine food. Don't go here.
