This is a very americanized "italian" place. Spaghetti and Meat balls never go together in Italy... It is just unheard of. If you go there you are going for the quantity and not the actual taste of the plates. If you are looking for the average american italian place then I guess you are in luck because this is the place to be!

If you like good italian food, don't waste your time and money here when there are many awesome places in NYC. Seriously the quality is on par with the Olive Garden. No joke. I took the time to create an account here just so I could warn people!

I am a fan of their Upper West Side location, but I recently went in with a few colleagues for a business lunch. On my last visit, the main hostess was speaking to a young lady & then errupted into loud & very obscene language, following said young lady out onto the sidewalk to continue her tirade. From what I understand, she still has a job

It came highly recommended and when we arrived, the hostess could not have been more rude. It was as if she were doing us a favor by seating us. The service was nonexistent, the food arrived luke warm and was not memorable once we had it served at the proper temperature. Go to McDonalds, at least you'll get what you're expecting!

Are these people losing it? Carmine's is so fabulous we are making another trip and have already planned to bring our 4 kids with us this time so they are able to experience everything we did there. The food portions are excessively generous. Doesn't taste like from Italy but it is great tasting regardless! American Italian yes but great beautiful salads. the place smells amazing, Beautiful bold colored foods. Great wine choices. Beautifully decorated. Our server was incredibly cordial, pleasant and KIND! They took us moments before they closed and got us everything we asked for even though they were closed. Can't wait to make the long trek to Carmine's from Florida once we arrive August 15th! Was the best rest. we experienced there. Don't miss it!

the service there was impeccable. the waiters were quick with orders, amiable and approachable. the food was excellent, though the fish of the day was slightly oily...but it still tasted good

While I agree with the other reviews in that you can find more authentic (less Americanized) Italian in the city, I still thought Carmine's was a worth-while experience. Traveling to the city often for business, I look for relaxing atmospheres for my coworkers and I to meet once our day is over. Carmine's provided that. Their sommelier took time to speak with us and recommend bottles of wine from the collection. The family-style portions ended up being reasonably priced (~$40-50 for an entree with pasta added will easily feed 4 people). We arrived as shows were starting, caught the restaurant during its turnover from theatre crowd to evening crowd, and were seated immediately. It is worth noting, both when considering just dropping in without reservations as well as how quickly you have to eat and leave, that Carmine's does get very busy. As the restaurant filled up, the service became slower, but not unreasonable.
