What more can be said about this NYC insitution. The food never gets better, but the patrons keep coming back.

I don't understand, why do people write a review that's a complete lie? This place is known for it's history of good food, and the environment is like no where else. I order cheesecake to get sent to my mother, who was born in Brooklyn, but now lives out of state. She loves it, and it's always arrived as advertised, on time and GREAT. Go there and check it out, you'll love the experience.

When in New York, go to Carnegie Deli

I had the Woody Allen and while a little dry, was good noentheless. I had a potato knish that was excellent. Best cheesecake that I have ever tasted. The waitress was very helpful for first timers and was quick to suggest what not to order! WE had a great time and while pricey, the ladies just shared their sandwich anyways. Go once, maybe twice, then check out where New Yorkers will eat.

A Must for Tourists

Plain and simple, food was great, don't expect a mind blowing corned beef sandwich, just a really good one. Portions are beyond comprehension, so it's a good idea to split something. Cheesecake was excellent, and all in all, for the portions you're getting, it's definately worth it. Our server was quite entertaining, full of personality and attitude (in a good way of course), and we didn't have to wait long for a table at all, and the decor was certainly interesting... seating was rather intimate as well, and we got to know the people around us throughout the meal. Definately a great experience!

I understand the min. charge as that is stated on the menu, but my waiter said I could not have a smaller meal and dessert. He was extremely rude and stated to me dessert did not count as part of the min. charge. I think when he heard my Southerm accent, he went in for the kill. I know about the reputation but this went beyond entertainment this was creepy. I ate at many nice NY Restaurants with good food and very nice staff one owner came out in upper West side to welcome us to NY Love the city

Awful service!

My wife and I found the service awful. Didn't even leave a tip! The wait staff were rude and disrespectful. Food is okay but extremely overpriced. Would never go back there. There are so many much, much better deli's around NYC, where the food is better and the service like you would expect. George and Louise (Sydney, Australia)

I was so excited that our hotel (Park Central) was just steps from the Carnegie Deli. This place is famous- my husband and I each had a Woody Allen Sandwich (no clue how big they were) and the pickles were awesome. It was so incredible just to be there! Very intimate seating, but had a blast with the people sitting next to us. It is pricey, but it's totally worth it. The experience was fantastic and our waiter was great. We went back the next night just to get cheesecake to take back to our hotel room! I will definitely go back as soon as we visit NYC again.

This place is a rip-off. There is only one "Huge" sandwich (the woody allen) - everything else is an OVERPRICED rip-offs Stay away - go to a deli - order a pound of corned-beef - nuke it and you've got the same sandwich but you saved a fortune. p.s. I live in NYC so tourists here is a word of advice - STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.

could not wait to get out of there

the food was dry and it was elbow to elbow seating.... spent $66 for one pastrami on rye, one turkey pastrami on rye and one stuffed cabbage. The stuffed cabbage was great before we lathered what turned out to be mayo, instead of sour cream, on it... she had brought out the wrong condiment... had a terrible time, would never go back, wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy... the worst part was that two elderly people wanted to sit next to each other, side by side, and your only "allowed" to sit facing each other at a two seater table due to their policy of packing in the space... the wait staff talked about the couple right in front of them asked if they'd "ever been to a restaurant before." I could not believe my ears....

Tourist trap

Spent $65 on a pastrami sandwich and a brisket sandwich. Pastrami was good and moist. And key here was it was still warm. mustard was just spicy enough. The brisket on the other hand was cold and dry and flavorless. I mean really dry. You would think they know how to make a brisket. Apparently not. There's plenty of other delis in NYC that can and do. Save some money and go there. Waitstaff was rude and seemed annoyed that I needed a refill on my drink. I needed it because your brisket is dry. Pickles were good though. I recommend the pickles.
