I just moved to 6th street Between Ave B & C and my girlfriend discovered it, She is 100% Boricua, Each and every time, The food has been DELICIOUS, Just the smell of this place makes your mouth water, And even when getting take out,They don't skimp of the size of the servings or quality of the food, My girl friend and I love this place, She says things like how the food reminds her of her Grand Mothers cooking,Trust me, There is no higher complement then that, (The noises that come out of her when eating there food, Well I wish I could make he make those sounds, lol,) This food is very reasonable priced,Cooked with love and care, and just plan delicious,I mean scrumptious, It is not to be confused or even compared to the Cuchifrito crap you can get uptown, This is real home cooking at it's best, You will walk away stuffed and sublimely full and happy, This is comfort food that sticks to your ribs, Word of advise,When you go there, Give yourself some time, It gets busy and may take a bit for your food to be ready, BUT IT IS MORE THEN WORTH THE WAIT, And if you want truly great food at a nice price, And you know the value of a truly great meal, Stop by,It cant be beat, All the ladies who work there from Adela on down are so sweet and kind and so is Luis, You gotta try the Cuban sandwich and the Alcapurrias,One word,"HEAVEN" Try it just once and you will be back for more and more, By David,

Went to Casa Adela tonight on Ave. C and 5th street. To be honest, I'm a big supporter of the little hidden-gems, but I've never ventured past Ave. B before. Surprising, given my temporary stay on 2nd ave. b/w 4th and 5th St. and sense of adventure for anything food-related. I chose the restaurant based on "critic's pick" reviews on NY Mag. Right away you can smell the aroma of spices and garlic, which gave me a false sense of excitement. Good, clean seasoned rotisserie chicken, which is what they are highlighted for, hearty sweet plantains and pretty bland black beans. A decent cheap eat, but it doesn't compare to Miami's flair for Spanish food, especially if you are from Miami. All in all, nothing too special, mind-blowing or authentic. There weren't any atmospherics and the restaurant was hot, hot, hot. BYO was the best part of the meal. An OK spot with the right company and spirits! I wouldn't recommend deliberately venturing to this restaurant if you aren't already in the neighborhood.

If you are looking for authentic Puerto Rican food this is the place to go. I have been enjoying Miss Adela's food for many years. I've tried all kinds of place in NYC including some very upscale spots but I always end up craving the food at Casa Adela. The atmosphere is very friendly. All kinds of folks come in to eat. It is a very happy place to eat. The food is amazing. It reminds me of my own family's cooking. The Arroz con Gandules is grand. It even smells the way it should smell. The huge chuletas are also a treat and you get two. I always say "Nena I can't eat those big chuletas in one sitting" then I end up eating the chuletas, tostones, beans, rice and some misc. items. Trust me this place is the best in NYC.

I know this beautiful lady for years. She was my stepmother and I can said she is a very clean person, she cook very good and she was the best stepmother that any person can have. She used to cooked for several workers, and later on delivery to them fresh, hearthy home food. She is good inside and outside. Five stars to this hard worker Lady!
