Spare yourself the ignominy
By mdnewyork on 4/10/2012
I was in the restaurant in March 2012 and was astounded by how bad the service was and how short-sighted the manager on duty was. Long story short, my husband and I took several friends out for a celebratory brunch. One of the servers poured water for a guest and somehow knocked over another guests glass of sparkling wine. Her solution for remedying the situation was to offer us another glass of sparkling wine (we had purchased a bottle). The wine got all over a guests suit jacket and another guest's sweater. When I got the bill we were charged for everything. There was no adjustment for the dry cleaning, the inconvenience, the embarrassment, nothing. When I asked for the manager he bartered up to being able to take $5 off of our bill because, he told me, in his neighborhood in Queens, dry-cleaning a men's suit cost $5. Seriously.
Great food, from appetizer to dessert

Great location on the Upper East Side. We went there after a visit to the Guggenheim. We had a table upstairs. We knew the prices were expensive but, we hoped, according to the quality of the food. We prepared if not for a great lunch at least for a nice one. Regretfully this was not the case. The service was lousy. Definitely she didnt seem to like her job. The food .... well, first of all, its a very bad thing when you ask for a couple of menu items and they are not available. After waiting a lot of time finally we were served. The food was completely uninspiring. I know very well the Italian cuisine. My grandparents were Italians and Ive been in that beautiful country numberless times. Believe me, any common trattoria on any Italian place would be ashamed of food like that. La fettina di manzo could have been any other thing. No distinctive flavor. To add insult to a painful experience they pretended to add to my bill a twenty per cent gratuity in spite I hadnt instruct them to add the gratutiy. .And to make it more annoying they calculated the percentage not over the price but over the price plus taxes. Something very important: we didnt notice anyone who could be identified as a regular customer. Now I understand why. Jose Maria

The food was authentic and good. The server was professional, everything went right. The decor was not my style, but looked suitably Italian.

the decor was fine but the food embarassingly bad. i had a monkfish which was literally inedible. the substitute veal was almost as bad, the pasta average at best and the dessert about the same. never again

A warm rustic feel with upscale italian cuisine, a helpful waitstaff and a nice wine list. Recommend.
