A wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary. Service was amazing and the room stunning. The food was superb - from the frois gras and frog leg appetizers to the sumptious fish and meat main courses. Everything was thoughtfully presented, the food fresh and delicious. Not amazingly inventive, but wonderful nonetheless. I highly recommend

Went there for lunch and was initially very favorably impressed by lovely room, spectacular flowers and gracious service. However, the food was seriously lacking, and I know my food! The appetizer salad with lobster and sea urchin was minuscule (third of a cup) and not even tasty, could barely find the lobster or urchin. My scallops on a bed of endive were: 4 scallops, 1.5 inches in diameter tops, sitting on a tiny bed of leeks. Good, not spectacular, and not enough to feed a mouse. Husband's snapper was equally teensy weensy. We don't need huge quantities, but this was so small as to leave us feeling gypped...cappuccino @ $6 was lukewarm. Why is this place getting raves for the food?

This is a handsome room with flowers and plenty of space between tables. The seafood sausage was exquisite as was the goat cheese soufle. 2 of the 4 in our party had the rack of lamb, which was excellent and the other 2 had the duck, which was less so; good but not great. Desserts were outstanding as was the service. Should have a fruit choice. Wine list had a good selection but most were above $100. We'll be back.

We heard and read what others had raved about this place. Honestly, we were disappointed. The food was above average but not excellent. nevertheless, we would want to go back for another try.

Came in with high expectations but it certainly lived up to its vaunted billing! Sumptuous cuisine and preternatural service makes it a dining experience non pareil. The regulars may be old and stuffy, but Mix in the generous table spacing, glorious flower arrangements, and classic French interior, this is one of NYC's top romantic destinations.

After being enchanted with this restaurant for years, my most recent visit found the food a little tired and the prices very high. Still has the best cheese cart in the city, wonderful service, friendly knowledgable staff, peaceful decor with wonderful flower arrangements, but.... If only the main courses could keep up with the astonishigly original appetizers. Any Japanese-influenced dish is close to the che'fs heart. The assorted sush--yes, sushi--with sake tasting was a wonderful surprise on two visits. Meat and fish entrees, however, have lost their sparkle. Please improve, I used to lve you!

I remember the early days of Chanterelle,when it first opened in 1979 in a small strorefront on Grand street.The food was exquisite.We were greted by Karen(Waltuck). Little did we know that her husband David was working his magic in the kitchen.Ten years later,the restaurant moved to larger,more spacious quarters in The Mercantile Exchange Building in Tribeca.To this day,it is one of our favorite restaurants.Elegant,unpretentious,and delicious!Their wine cellar boasts over 5000 bottles of the best wines this side of France.Here's an example of their menu!Appetizers include their famous Grilled Seafood Sausage(A Must Try) Sautéed Foie Gras with Figs & Balsamic Vinegar,Jellied Beef Shin & Vegetables with Goat Cheese Cream And More... My last and final experience was unhappy. The food was all too mediocre and some of it down right bad. No one asked how anything was and it was impossible to flag anyone down for water let alone to voice our dining displeasure. We let the manager know of the bad experience and nothing was done. No customer service - AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

I was treated to dinner here, so my review would be even more lukewarm if I had paid for this myself. Grievously overpriced. Dated decor, with some obvious stains on the soft furniture in the entryway. Annoyingly quiet, such that you'll cringe if your fork taps the side of your plate. The servers seem to subscribe to some odd cult of personality, whispering the menu options with bizarre reverence and holding their hands just so. For the price, food is conspicuously ordinary. 'Twee preparations abound. At least one dish looked as though oxidation had set in. Some of our food was good, but not memorably so. Where's the money all going if it's not reflected in the dishes? Much of the experience felt stuck in time, and left me longing for a more American version of a good, expensive meal.

First time I went was for valentine's day diner & the service was quite impressive but the food was not. It was very disappointing considering the hype. Recently I went there again during the $19.99 lunch specials & again I was not impressed with what we ate. Space is grand with high ceilings & magnificient flower arrangements. Seating is spread very far apart so you can actually hear your group's conversation but if you go when it is half empty, you feel like whispering.
