No reason to go here

Take Brother Jimmys decor, then remove the party atmosphere and good food. That pretty much sums up the Chat N Chew. This little spot just off Union Square does not have much to offer in comparison to the rest of NYC. The mac n cheese was huge and flavorless, and the turkey burger was not much better. The dining space is awful and filled with little kids, which makes sense because the decor is like I said - that typical family restaurant garbage with random crap all over the walls. Bring kids or someone you hate.

The place is chaos but in a good way. I went there for lunch with two other co-workers and they sat us next to a group of about 15 people with all there crying babies. It was a little distracting and hard to enjoy my company and food. Overall, the food was not so special that I would want to come back. It reminds me of an overpriced diner.

This place gets a lot of business due to the lack of cheap, casual eateries in the Union Square area. It's great for before or after seeing a movie, or for brunch--though it's very busy on the weekends, so be prepared to wait. The waitstaff is terribly unattentive, but they're so nice about it that you end up leaving a decent tip anyway.

This is a great place for brunch. Service is very quick. The atmosphere was jovial and they moved us right through, in a good way. All in all, I'd say it's a great place to spend your Sunday morning. The sweet potato fries are delish and the prices are reasonable. It gets crowded and they don't take reservations.

I've been to Chat 'n' Chew a couple of times, and it's definitely nice when you find yourself in Union Square at mealtime, you don't have a lot of money, and you're craving some kind of comfort food. I particularly recommend the sweet potato fries - they *are* divine. The service quickly gets spotty when it's busy, though, and beware the a/c in the back - frrreeeezing, even on a hot day.

Low key place with tasty comfort food in NYC - a rare find

I've been going to Chat n Chew for years. Always friendly staff and great comfort food at decent price. Red velvet cake is unbelievable. The place is low key and friendly and great to take friends or kids. If you need to find a place to take your parents, this would be it. Ribs were on special once and they were awesome. hope they come back again. Awesome sandwiches too.

The portions at CnC are huge and delicious; the perfect set of comfort food. I went with a friend, who ordered the Catfish Po'Boy, (so satisfying, with a good dipping sauce) and I ordered their delicious, over-the-top mac and cheese (crunchy top, creamy insides, not at all overly greasy or cold). Eating just those two dishes together, and drinking a soda, we could barely move out the door. Service was pretty good, and I am somewhat picky about this. We were seated promptly and the waitress was friendly about coming back to get us drinks when we hadn't ordered them initially. They did not rush us out the door, and it was quite clearly a 2 hour lunch.

This place is a hidden secret of Union Square. It's off the beaten path, so I don't think a lot of people know about it. The waiter was kind of a smart ass. We didn't know if he was joking or if he was really serious. We ate brunch there and it was great. The decor is great also. Good little find!
