Worst NYC experience ever-no, worst restaurant meal ever!

We went on my aunt's recommendation for a special night, but where to begin the tragedy? Everything tasted a day old and reheated. My husband's Daube was so bad, he said 1) "I could cook better" and an eggs are a stretch for him, and 2) I had to switch entrees, so that he could eat something edible on his birthday! Rillettes de Canard - bland. Duabe - the meat was dry and dish completely overcooked. Loin of Lamb- zero flavor, tender-but flavor-none, zipnothing! Tarte Tatin- over sweet and again, just about no flavor. Wine, not much better. One glass of bordeaux-just about turned, little flavor. Malbec was pasable. All this for the price of a week of groceries! I have never - in many years and many continents had a worse, more over-priced, meal. The staff was sweet, and efficient, but lacked any enthusiasm(although this is understandable). Decor was pleasant, if again tired and worn way past better days.

Perfect night

  • Yes, I would go back!

My boyfriend and I just had the most romantic, delectable Valentine's Day meal at Chez Jacqueline (which is also my name). The crusty, flaky, chewy bread and fragrant, caramel-y butter were out of this world -- I would have been happy if the meal ended there. But of course it did not. We enjoyed appetizers of smoky lobster bisque and tender, flavorful, fat stalks of asparagus. Our entrees were divine: My boyfriend had the sea bass with an anise sauce, fennel, and greens and I had the seared scallops in saffron sauce with a medley of julienned vegetables. Dessert was heavenly, as desserts should be. We shared generous portions of rich chocolate cake, pistachio ice cream, luscious panna cotta, fresh berries, spectacular raspberry sorbet, and a giant, long-stemmed, chocolate-dipped strawberry. The service was lovely, the ambiance and decor were simple yet entirely pleasant, and both couples who sat beside us were French! All in all, a fabulous restaurant and an even better date. C'est magnifique!
