I went in this week for the first time, and I was told they're closing 6/17 due to building construction and don't know if/where/when they'll reopen.

I was dragged here a few times. Nice place to read a book, take in the sunshine, and get some tea.

Stumptown coffee is great, put it's more expensive here than other places. It's a nice place to relax, though.

Best coffee in New York or anywhere for that matter

This charming little cafe features direct-trade organic coffee and espresso drinks made on a high-end La Marzocco machine by talented baristas who grind per order, manually time shots and produce accomplished latte art in pretty, multicolored ceramic cups. They will even adjust the grind to match climate conditions. If you're looking for automated push-button Starbucks-style monotony, look elsewhere. They use Direct-trade, organic coffee supplied by top roaster, Counter Culture Coffee and feature your choice of a mocha-java blend or a single-origin special. The baked goods are homemade and the brownies, the nut bar and the granola bars are the best you'll find anywhere (they use Valhrona chocolate). Also, check out the peanut butter balls.

I love this little cafe on Thompson, it's so relaxing and sweet. The servers are incredibly polite, and the food and drinks are delicious. I enjoy going here when I have a little time to kill or when I want something tasty to go.

This place gave me the best cappuccino I've had in MONTHS. (Plus, if you stay there they serve drinks in actual cups, a nicety too many places have dropped in favor of cardboard.) Their chocolate chip cookies are delicious, and everything else looked tasty too. The cafe and its staff are hip enough that you feel trendy, not so hip that they make you feel like a yuppie square. Not tons of atmosphere, but comfy enough.
