Workplace for models
By Marchie2003 on 9/26/2003
Coffee Shop is known to house the most beatiful women trying to break it in the world of top model, but that's not why this place urks me. It's a little too pretentious. The woman who stand at the front, waiting to seet you, look dreadfully bored. Like they should be sipping mojito's on a photo shoot in Miami, not "acting" like a hostess at a coffee shop in New York. At night this place gets packed with the young, hip and trendy city dwellers. During the day it's a mix of tourists and business people. I've gone there to eat for lunch only. It was decent food, like an upscale diner. Nothin' special, expect for the 6 foot, Niaomi Campbell look a like who politley served us our lunch.
Wonderful Waiter, Horrible Host
By DrMikeP on 4/1/2004
Been going to Coffee Shop on ocassion since around 1989. After winding through the "usual suspects" milling about, had a nice drink from a friendly bartender with a small group of friends. Cut to the chase: flagrantly rude and just plain nasty host (dark curly-haired guy, 30-ish). We had reservations, werent pushy but poor thing is still looking, I guess, for his "big break" that never came. Even the co-hostess that sat us spontaneously apologized. Server was wonderful but we cut the evening there short, phoned ahead to a group that was meeting us for drinks, and headed elsewhere. It's a shame that 1 person can have so much influence on how an evening turns out. Since there are many other similar, fun places around NYC, think twice about going to Coffee Shop unless you like that sort of thing.
Worst Experience Ever!!!

The "Super model waitstaff" has the worst service in NYC! They either forget that you exist at that table (even when its not busy) and forget about even being nice to them because they don't really care about the people they are serving. They just care about how good they look. And forget about the drinks! They don't know how to make a decent martini! Its not worth it! Don't go!

I went a while back, and had a great time, kicked back in the corner and it was a very pleasant experience. I've gone back every once in awhile, and though I enjoy their brunch, I can't say that I think anything fabulous of it. I hate the waitstaff, and avoid them as muchas I can, this includes the hosts/hostesses and just about everybody else. Not pleasant anymore.

How do you offer a shrimp with salad dish and only include 3 shrimp??? Furthermore, the rest of the dish was entirely inedible WEEDS. When I had finished my 3 shrimp and left my weeds untouched, I then had to order a real meal to satisfy my appetite. What's worse is that the waitress actually admitted taht the salad was just a bunch of weeds. Couldn't she have told me that Before I wasted $12 on 3 shrimp and a bunch of weeds? I don't recommend the food here. Stick to the bar scene and people watching.
horrible service and food

We went here for brunch. It took a while to get a hostess to seat us, even though there was no one else waiting and it was not crowded at all. We wanted a table in the front of the restaurant (there were three tables open), but the hostess told us that the tables were reserved. She lied to us because they don't even take reservations for brunch. She sat us all the way in the back of the restaurant where the music was blasting so loud that we could not hear each other. The food was horrible and over-priced. We could have gone to a typical diner for better food and cheaper price. The home fries were so salty. I had to rub off the salt. My toasts were burnt. They didn't even have whole grain toast.

I worked in the flatiron area for most of the 1990's.Coffee shop was a favorite lunch/brunch spot. The model slash actor waiting to be discovered, great to look at but vacant when needed for service, was made up for with the surprisingly tasty simplefood.I loved the meatloaf, fishtacos, bbq chix sand and whipped potato. The dessert was always on the money, especially the pies.Fejoda and samba, fantastic. After a 5yr absence,I came in this Aug.with friends from Canada. What happened?!!No samba, the food cold bland and tired.banana cream cement?I was embarrassed,at least the staff is still smokin hot, although our server was rude and bothered by my friends Quebec accent. She assumed we were Euros and reminded us to tip.Either the kitchen has changed hands or they have just slid down to be closer to the level of the young pretty little things. The drinks were the highlight of the day, they helped wash down our meals and smoothed our mood. The next time we'll grab a hotdog on the corner first, then people watch over cocktails, location is the only reson to come back.
A neat trendy lunch spot

If you don't mind how packed it is here, it's a nice casual place for lunch at reasonable prices. The staff is great to look at, but it would be nice if they looked at my table to notice my drink is empty and offer some faster service. My burger was tasty and juicy and had fresh trimmings, and the herbed fries were very crispy and tasty. Some great daily offerings on the menu too. The music is a little loud but it seems like a great scene and I'll definitely check it out again late night.
How many idiots does it take to set a table???
By Albert_NYC on 4/3/2008
Walked into coffee shop (which was nearly empty) this morning around 10:30 for breakfast. We were a table of 6, and two from our party arrived 10-15 minutes earlier and alerted the hostess to the number of our party. She said "no problem. we'll give you a nice table as soon as everyone arrives." The rest arrived and we were told to wait another couple minutes. Finally the female Maitre D, came over and said they were setting up a back room for us and it would take 2 min. A few minutes later, the Maitre D comes over and say its going to be 20 minutes till they can set the back room! We mentioned that they had already had 15 minutes to arrange something. Her response "I am the Maitre D. I decide where to seat people." We walked out. How hard is it to set a table and feed 6 people? Apparently at Coffee shop, its impossible.
