I went last night and had a really great meal. My server was friendly, helpful and reasonably attentive without bothering us. The Spring Vegetable Ap was really stellar. I shared the whole roasted chicken and it was amazing. Plan to have some time to eat as they space things out. It's a pretty loud space and a rather boisterous crowd, so it is better for a small group rather than a cozy intimate dinner. It was also pretty crowded, make a reservation.

I have read several great reviews for this restaurant and, for the life of me, I cannot understand the hype! When we got there, we had to wait 20 minutes for our reservation. And when they finally sat us they stuck us in a tiny table right by the incredibly noisy bar. People were continuously using the other chair at our table as their coat rack and one woman nearly knocked over my wine glass with her behind! The food was mediocre at best, nothing special at all. And our server acted as if he was mad at us when we could not have been lower maintenance. Seriously, there are so many amazing restaurants in New York, I would not waste a second of your time (or money!) at this one.

Worth the Wait

Despite being seated 35 minutes past our 9:45pm reservation & having to ask for menus, we were pleased. The waitstaff made up for our initial aggravation; not with what I'd normally expect (a complimentary glass of wine/morsel from the chef), but with pleasant, timely (but not rushed) service & zero attitude. I didn't even notice that we weren't "compensated" until the next morning. The waiter was on-point, but "chill", despite the jammed-packed atmosphere, which would've put most staff/kitchens in the weeds. When we asked for more "whole grains", the runner came over 3 times with different breads (not that we needed it), but the way she went about it was cute & endearing. My friend loved the beef & the duck, the mushroom ravioli was delicious & the sommelier was spot on with his suggestion. Even their basic salad was well done - the manchego cheese wasn't just thrown on top of a heap of mesculin greens, but freshly shaved & tossed with care throughout in a light lemon & herb vinegarette. Simple & delicious. I'll be back - but I'll make my reservation 30 minutes before I want to sit.

Food was noteworthy. Breads were exceptional. Chicken for 2 also memorable. Breakfast t he Isralei Workman's breakfast was unusual and very tasty. I will go back, for sure.

I went last night and the service was amazing and the food was delicious. I love incredibly refined food in restaurants that aren't overly formal and this is exactly what Commerce is. The restaurant gets very loud but I really enjoyed the entire experience because it reminded me of how the space was once a speakeasy. Its nice to go to a restaurant and have upscale, refined, excellent food and not have the stuffy environment. I had the steak tartar and the Pennsylvania chicken...both were outstanding! My friend had the 20 herbs & lettuces salad and the fettuccini with house made ricotta which was equally delicious. Will definitely be back!

I've never written one of these reviews but felt obliged to comment on my experience this past saturday night. We had a reservation for 9:15 for 2. When we arrived at 9:10 the hostess said it shouldn't be very long. Quickly, however, we discovered there were many people at the bar who had 8:30 reservations and still had not been seated. Before we knew it we had waited almost 2 hours. finally around 11pm we were seated. while the wait staff was apologetic, the management was useless. And, we were not alone -- lots and lots of people were having the same experience. Clearly they can't figure out their reservation system. The food was fine (though there was a very long wait for that too) but not worthy of a night of waiting. Lots of better restaurants out there where you won't end up eatting at midnight notwithstanding a 9:15 reservation.

I came here on a Friday night and the vibe was great. A really fun restaurant for someone looking for the real NYC experience. The cocktails at the bar were awesome and the food exceptional. The staff really knew what they were talking about. I will def be back.

Study the details: wine list items that offer rare excellence for about $50, the chocolate-bar walnut tables, the best house-made bread basket since Balthazar, the lighting like a thousand hidden candles (you will look gorgeous), and yes, the roast chicken is worth the wait. I love this place.

My wife and I have gone to Commerce twice since they opened. We both have found Commerce to be a comfortable, neighborhood place, similiar to the theme of "Cheers". We are both Bostonians who visit NYC several times a year and have found Commerce to be a welcoming restaurant, even if we are Red Sox fans! The staff are all pleasant and accomodating. We tend to eat a little earlier than most New Yorkers thus we have not encountered any wait problems.
We have found the menu to be varied and cater to many different tastes. In our opinion, it is a must dine experience. We will definately return again.

I have eaten at Commerce three times, and each time, the chef has improved and the wine/champagne list has gotten better.
Order the lobster, and you won't regret it.
A true gem, and the prices are quite reasonable.
