On Valentine's Day my girlfriend found pieces of GLASS in her chocolate cake. Instead of immediately apologizing a manager accused us of planting the glass in front of the entire restaurant. Who runs their business this way?I have reported this problem to the Better Business Bureau and 311 and will explore legal actions. Do not go to this restaurant if you expect safe service. If tonight wasn't Valentines Day I would have called the police.

How on earth could this restaurant be a critic pick? True, we went on a Saturday night in the dead of summer, but please, food like this just should not be served. The place was exceedingly creepy with odd service and the food was so below par that we left as soon as we could. We ordered the salad w/beets and goat cheese and the leafs of the spinach came BRUISED and the was salad was overall overdressed! The other appetizer was the pork loin w/tuna - absolutely dreadful - I would imagine this is what cat food tastes like...and finally the main course was a pasta with sausage - al dente doesn't even come close, one pasta actually crackled as I bit into it. The feel in the place was that of a tired, lackluster cook with no pride when it comes to food. Please, take my advice and NOT GO!

We have had several wonderful meals here but haven't been able to get in for a while. Finally stopped in and got a table - what a disappointment. The wine and appetizers were good but the entrees were awful. No flavor, overcooked.

I was looking forward to eating here and my husband’s birthday seemed like the perfect opportunity. The decor was great and the food was good (I'm sure it would have been fantastic had we ordered differently) but the service was disappointing. There were two waiters and one of them seemed to do all the work. He was fantastic but he wasn't able to keep our meal flowing because he was also taking care of all the other tables. Waiter #2 did nothing else but clear dishes. We asked for water and didn't receive it until we asked a second time and it was after we had watched every other table receive a nice jug of it. And this was even after our meal was slow to arrive from the kitchen. And even after this they were slow to take our dessert order. And to end the evening, we were charged for a bottle of wine we did not have. The flan was great and we were impressed with their selection of ports as well as the sardines and the chicken liver pate but after two and a half hours we were really ready to go. Thanks, Convivium.

The service is consistently terrible, sometimes with good reason (one night I was there, it was just one waiter serving the back garden and the front room) and sometimes for no reason at all. I always feel like they're tryign to pressure me into ordering expensive dishes and wine. And the entrees were a terrible value.The whole baked fish was particularly awful - a pound and a half of foil-wrapped overcooked fish to try and choke down. On the bright side - the appetizer platter is DELICIOUS: don't miss this one. Consider ordering one for each pair of people in your party, and skipping the main course, and spending the rest of your budget on wine and maybe dessert at the Chocolate Bar down the street.

You'd better know exactly where you're going because this place isn't easy to find. There's no sign out front, and the restaurant is only the width of one small storefront. And once you do discover it, you'll feel like you've uncovered a little gem. The food is excellent--especially the artichoke appetizer and the fish entree. The menu is an odd mixture of cuisines, but somehow they make it work. I liked just relaxing and staring at all the fun objects on the walls. You feel transported--like you're visiting someone's grandma on the coast of Andalusia.

My husband and I dined at Convivium last night after reading all the positive reviews posted here. Our entire experience was wonderful. We loved everything about the place -- the atmosphere (so charming with the candlelight, farm tables, and distressed paint), service (impeccable), the food (more than delicious -- try the quail appetizer). This has become one of our favorite restaurants in Brooklyn and we've already made plans to come back.

Sadly, the menu does not change often. But with food this good you're not looking for major changes. If you're me, you're looking for the pine-nut crusted rack of lamb and a glass of Rioja from their great wine selection. Or the codfish casserole - rich and buttery with sweet aromas of anise and nutmeg. The menu is hearty - this is not a place to bring a wafer-thin date who's only going to pick at their plate. Convivium is for eaters. Between the great, homey food and the warm communal setting you'll feel as if they've wrapped you up in a big cozy blanket by meal's end. One of Park Slope's hidden treasures. Actually, I shouldn't even be telling you about it, but keeping it secret. Forget you ever read this...

Despite the fact that this restaurant is in a “tougher” part of the mostly re-gentrified neighborhood of Park Slope, it is a real gem & my personal favorite place for a intimate dinner, especially on a hot summer night. I absolutely love the fact that once you step through the doors of this establishment you are all but physically transported to Portugal. The seafood tapas is as good as it gets. Try the lamb chops, in fact keep going back and try it all. Let the staff help you if you are unfamiliar with some of the more interesting Portuguese wines, you won’t regret it.

Our party of four cannot stop talking about this dinning experience. The cellar room was small but our table was spacious, and our party could spread out without the usual breathing down one another's necks common in small store-front eateries. The appetizers were delectable, there wasn't a drop of olive oil left on anyone's plate when they were finished. The first bottle of wine that our waiter suggested was universally loved by all, our entrees were fantastic, I had the grilled sea bass, and loved every morsel; even the simple side of zucchini seemed special. Deserts were equally yummy, I had a grilled peach with chocolate & almonds, simple & delicious, my wife had a flowerless chocolate cake that's still haunting her dreams. Also worth noting was my espresso, which was very good, which is something of a rare thing in a restaurant. We will definitely be returning soon & often.
