Food, and in particular, service were outstanding. A very nice evening. If I had a gripe, and it is real, it is that the portions are woefully small. To spend the money I did, and to walk out hungry, is suboptimal. What amounted to 2 pieces of Hamachi for my appetizer, and several bites of lobster for my main course truly left me wanting. Tough times I know, but supplement with a bit more of the non-proteins.

I've gone to Corton twice in the past 2 months, and both times have had an absolutely incredible experience. To begin with, the service is impeccable: warm, friendly, and professional without being stuffy. The sommelier in particular is amazingly helpful. The food is simply outstanding, and very difficult to describe unless you've experienced it. The flavors and textures in each dish are so complementary and so unexpected that you find yourself amazed at the artfulness of the dish, at how unexpected it all is. This is a truly special dining experience.

Pleasant surroundings and great service don't make up for the so-so food in general (some dishes were indeed quite good) served in ridiculously small portions with astronomical prices. The now $79 three course pre-fixe (raising prices since the recent review in a recession; nice) which is just appetizer, main and dessert is served with portion sizes that would be small for a 10 course tasting menu. My beef main could easily have been consumed in two bites. I'm not a huge eater, but I left hungry.

Corton is delectable, mind blowing, exciting, delicate, and humble. With the recession, it is undoubtedly harder to not factor in cost when summing up the quality of a dining experience. While Corton may not be exactly neighborhood bistro prices, it is still infinitely better priced than the recently opened Marea and other hard hitting, fine dining establishments of a past or current era. Inventiveness yet restraint is pervasive across all dishes. There is foie gras highlighting a crayfish dish, and a foam bubbling in your mouth as you let perfectly cooked scallops melt in your mouth. The amount of food is perfect if not deceiving; what looks like a paltry amount, actually is so rich in flavor and ingredient that you need not more than what is in front of you. The wine list is reasonable, the wait staff is friendly and on top of of it, and the setting inspires the enjoyment of food. There is no snobbery here. The chef even comes out in an undershirt. Thank god for Corton. I have been waiting for you.

This was by far the most expensive meal in my life that I didn't enjoy. The already aloof waiter was downright contemptuous because we did not order from the wine list. He also knocked over a glass of red wine that landed all over my shirt. We waited to see if the waiter would come back and offer a real apology or if the manager would acknowledge the accident. Nothing. Did they at least remove the red wine from the bill? Nope. Ah, Corton. We wanted to love you, were pre-conditioned to do so, but your service really really sucked. It felt like you took our $500+ and kicked us in the teeth for it. I didn't want the free dessert wine or for you to pick up the dry cleaning bill. All I wanted was someone to look me in the eye and offer an apology for ruining our night. You might be one of the hottest restaurants at the moment, but your inability to backpedal from a mistake with any grace or class is what will keep you from becoming one of the all-time greats. And in this economy, you can't afford that.

I don't understand how this place is highly rated. I ordered the rabbit and it tasted like it just had been taken out of the freezer. The service was horrible as well. I will never go back.

Well, service was horrible. Waitress checked in only to take an order. Presentation was more than lacking. Flies around the table all night. Words can not express how disappointed we were. Th host was rude and overall the experience was the most disappointing we have had in new york. Please don't waste your time or money.

I celebrated my birthday here and was extremely disappointed with the service, notably the horribly rude maitre d'. I do not understand how a restaurant of this caliber (and price) could employ such an ill-informed and tactless individual. After explaining to the manager our issues with the host, we were left with an offer of more dessert (nice gesture, I guess) but no apology whatsoever. The food is interesting and high-quality, but if you're celebrating a special occasion, I certainly would not take the risk of receiving such poor service.

Just went here for my wife's birthday, and we got the tasting menu. From the first bite to the last we were disgusted. The chef must have no palate because everything they put out there was either a horrible combination of flavors, too sweet or too bitter. On top of that it was $500. Total waste I wish there were zeroes to rate it on this review thing.

We were able to get reservations just a couple days in advance (and that should have been a queue). We were horrified by the food! We went with the fixe menu and while there were different options, the portions were small…so we left leaving starved because of that and because the food tasted awful. The chef of this restaurant gets a lot of hype but I’m curious as to why? My palate was far fr pleased. After $300, I’m sorry that I wasted my time and money. The one good thing was the service. The staff was very attentive and we never had to wait to or ask for anything twice.
