What a waste. Maybe I'm spoiled because my last meal was at Per Se but I was disappointed. First I had to wait 5 minutes for my cocktail at the bar, then when I was served flat champagne and asked for a glass from a fresh bottle I sat for another 5. The bar was virtually empty. The bartender just didn't try. The menu looked great and everything was pretty but every course was delivered by a mumbling bus-boy. I have no idea what I ate. Why organize the gesture of bringing the food out and describing it if you're sending the dishwasher out with it. I would have been much happier if they just left the menu on the table and didn't say a word. The food was good but far from amazing. Some low-lights: My pork belly was cold - much better at a $5 ramen spot, fish bones in cotton candy just didn't work, and everything seemed to be served in gel-strip form. That said, the service is the reason I will tell everyone I know not to waste their time. I cannot see this place surviving for very long.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday on a wednesday night and it was incredibly close to a perfect dining experience. The interior was simple and clean, certainly not "ugly" as some have outrageously described it. If your not offended by stark modernism, you'll be fine. The decor is not meant to be the star of the show. The service was impeccable. Professional, warm, and just the right amount of attentive. Plates of amuse bouches were brought over almost immediately after being seated. We had a bottle of sparkling rose on ice at the bar, and not once were our glasses empty. The service was never spare or interruptive. I could go on and on about the food. Its a place that doesn't just serve you a great meal, it immerses you in a wonderful experience. Yes, the presentation and the size of some of the dishes were a bit comical (a 1/4 inch cube of tomato gelatin topped with a drop of cream and a dainty leaf, served on tiny a porcelain pedestal). At times we couldn't suppress a chuckle at the spectacle of it all. But behind this preciousness is a chef that is truly obsessive about his craft. You get a palpable sense of that, and the experience is more rewarding for it. Regardless of your feelings on culinary art direction, there is no arguing that the food is fantastic. Within each sculptural collection of morsels are rich, satisfying, and surprising flavors. At $115 for the seasonal tasting menu, it was worth every penny. We left full and elated. What more can one ask.

$600 for maybe 16 bites of food...purred, gelatins, sous vide meat, one leaf. Not worth it. Everyone does this now for A Lot less.

This is the first time I'm writing a review, and mostly it's in response to reading the other reviews for this restaurant. It's interesting that the reviews are so polarizing, and even more surprising that this place was listed as #5 in the best restaurants issue. This should not be in the top 500, in my opinion. The food was interesting, although certainly not the best, the service was sloppy, but above ALL, the decor and atmosphere was reprehensible. I'm shocked that no one else commented on that. It's truly atrocious: bad lighting, dying/random flower arrangements, wrinkled table cloths, wall "art" circa 1988, etc., etc. Perhaps the ugliest restaurant I've eaten in EVER.

I consider myself a foodie. I have eaten the best, and chose this place as an alternative to Jean Georges. Obviously, there is no comparison. However, they did have some qualities that I have never seen before. Corton has the most amazing chef presentation I have ever seen. They are immaculate with the amuse bush, having received several. I had 3 amuse busheses before the first course. However, I think they lack in good management. When one pays such a great price, you expect that the service is proper and prompt. This is where they lacked, besides a small portion size. I ordered an espresso, yet it took 20 minutes to arrive. Overall, what they lacked was made up for in creativity. However, I wouldn't pay the prices again unless I knew that changes had been made. I will try again, in time (lower prices or new management). I left hungry, not something one should feel after a $600.00 meal. On the other hand, I would pay that if it were worth it.

Manhattan has amazing chefs with great restaurants ones that's cost your life saving and ones that don't..Chef Paul Liebrandts Corton is an experience and an event of culinary adventure. The ambiance the service and timing of food in the tasting menu was perfect. I understand the disappointment of people of not liking his food. People if you want mountains of meat veggies and mashed potatoes then stay away from Corton. But if you want an experience in food done to perfection, by a Man who can create magic with morsels of food, that opens your taste buds in your pallet that you thought you ever had..make your way to Corton...for me its an absolute repeat. Bravo Chef Liebrandt!!!

I'm puzzled by the bad reviews on Corton. My husband and I went to Corton last night. We eat out 5 nights a week and regularly eat at other top restaurants and are very rarely blown away- especially my husband- Corton blew us away. The unique flavor combinations were delicious and even exciting! My husband who's a picky eater said that each bite is like a new surprise for your mouth. I had the "Sea" starter which came with 5 different small plates of creative seafood tastings, he had the "Winter Vegetables" which was one of the most unique colorful pairings of vegetables we've ever seen. For dinner we had the lobster and monkfish- both were succulent and the monkfish was some of the best I've ever had. Dessert was no different the "Gold Bar" and "Brioche" were to die for...the Brioche was like the best french toast you've ever had times 10 with banana, passion fruit and caramel- unreal!! On top of it all the service was excellent. The place was only 3/4 full at prime time on a Friday night...we plan on going back soon, probably next week!

Very disappointing evening at Corton. Out of the 7 dishes of the tasting menu we ordered, two or three were just OK, the rest was either too salty or too sweet, and the ingredients were just not working together. None elicited the kind of "whao" reaction one would expect in this kind of place. The wines we were told would go well with our food were wrong (could someone please figure out a decent wine pairing with the one tasting menu they are serving every night?), and the service awkward - the explanations as to what we were about to it when each dish was served were delivered in such an artificial way that the whole thing was laughable. We could not wait for the meal to be over, and the only memorable moment came with the check - $400 for two for this kind of a meal???? If you never had a decent meal new style French meal in your live, you may be impressed by this place, but otherwise, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

I am surprised this restaurant received such negative reviews of late - I had a meal there last Friday night that was simply wonderful. The ambiance is peaceful and unique, the food delicious, and the service was amazing. The wine list is varied and fantastically priced - great half bottle selection. On top of that, the additional courses beyond the prix-fixe were wonderful, and customized around my order. Will definitely go back for another special occasion.

We were able to get reservations just a couple days in advance (and that should have been a queue). We were horrified by the food! We went with the fixe menu and while there were different options, the portions were small…so we left leaving starved because of that and because the food tasted awful. The chef of this restaurant gets a lot of hype but I’m curious as to why? My palate was far fr pleased. After $300, I’m sorry that I wasted my time and money. The one good thing was the service. The staff was very attentive and we never had to wait to or ask for anything twice.
