we were seated in the large dining room at the back of the restaurant. There were some large parties and the noise was crazy. Really not the place to have a quiet dinner when 2 or 4 in a party ...Never again ...

While the food was delicious and decor charming, the service at Crispo was unaccommodating and rude.

I've been to Crispo many occasions. For work parties, dates, and just a chilled out place to get a great bowl of pasta for a great price. The decor is great in the backroom with a fireplace - great for the winter. If you're looking for a romantic quiet venue, this is not the place. It's loud and fun. Great for groups. The specials are consistantly amazing, the apps and salads are declious. Can't say enough great things about this place - abso love it.

I've been to Crispo three times, and each time I go back its a geniunely enjoyable experience. Granted this is no Babbo, but then again, Crispo isn't selling itself as an over-the-top fine dining. The decor is pleasant, its neither understated or over the top. The front dining room has more of a cellar vibe to it. The carriage house in the back is large and spacious. The food is comfort food. You cannot go wrong with the Carbonara. While a little on the "bacony" side in terms of flavor, its the best Carbonara I've had in the city. The service can be a little slow to respond, but once you have their ear, they are quite attentive to your needs. As for the bad reviews, something seems a little suspicious. All eight of them happened within the span of a one month period of time, and four were within a single week. Either there was a review that came out at that time and the restaurant was slammed, or someone was trying to poison the well. Definitely take them with a grain of salt.

Can't believe the bad reviews! Food here is diverse, delicious well-prepared and very authentic Italian for the most part. Service to our loud, large group was kind, helpful and attentive. We let our server put together a sampling of appetizers for us and he pleased us all! Favorites were the risotto balls, olive miste and crostini. Of the entrees I tasted, the hangar steak and carbonara were the best but the orichette were tasty also. Every dish highlights a few simple ingredients which to me is the essence of italian cooking--absolutely delicious. A sampling of house made gelati was a perfect finish to the evening. The front of the restaurant is definitely darker but also quiter than the much brighter and louder back 'garden' room. Look forward to going back!

We had dinner last night at Crispo and we were so delighted. There is so much attention to detail at this restaurant from the lighting in the bathroom (which makes women look great!) to the large glasses of water that never seem to be empty. We were given a seat in the garden room which is like a hidden oasis in the big, bustling city. It is tranquil, with a retractable roof that allows for open air ambiance. There is a stone fountain and a fireplace that only adds to the lovely experience. The food was amazing- the torteloni with butternut squash were delicate but so flavorfull and my husband's steak was cooked to absolute perfection. The wine list was extensive but very user-friendly and our waiter was right there to assist us. I would definitely recommend Crispo to anyone looking for a casual but delicious night out. We loved it and we are city folks who have been to many restaurants!! No gimmicks here just good food and good times.

I had heard great things about this place, and I was very much looking forward to a great meal -- I was disappointed. The food is completely average - the type of Italian you can get at anywhere - and is only slightly better than the Italian served up in Little Italy. The atmosphere (starting with the block it is on, which is not a nice one) is bad. We ordered two apps, an entree and 4 drinks and the bill was $100, which was way too much. If you are in this area, do yourself a favor and go to gradisca (13th b/w 6 and 7) instead. You'll be glad you did.

After two days in New York eating at restaurants in the theatre district that were crowded and noisy, Crispo's was a welcome change. It was quite and soothing and reminded me of the small, off-the-beaten path restaurants in Florence, Italy. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and the food was perfect. Until I ate here I thought I hated squash but Crisp's squash was so delicious that I am now a converted squash lover! I'll certainly return here whenever I'm in New York.

We stumbled across Crispo by accident and we're glad we did. Everything was great from the attention to detail in the toilets (votive candles in each!) to the attentive staff and the fact you could eat at the bar added to the experience. That's even before we get to the food!! If you can't wait around you can just grab a bite at the bar. We had roasted bone marrow with fig compote and crusty bread to start followed by hanger steak and oven baked spaghetti carbonara with a perfect poached egg on the top. Dessert was to die for - and they serve Hoegaarden which is a big bonus! We ate here again the same week and had the same experience with Pork and Chiken. Enjoy! x ps. i must add that me and my love have been ejected from restuarants for demanding the best and we had no compaints here!
