Even though we were unaware that the restaurant had changed to a la carte - it was fresh, bright and delicious food. The service was impeccable. Our appetizers of squash tortellini and Kanpachi were both so succulent and smart and thrillingly good. The entree of lamb shank was good, but compared to the bass it lost its luster. Such a wonderfully prepared piece of fish - simple yet infused with flavor. Dessert was also nice. Lacking was the cheese course and we weren't thrilled with the "sides" being placed separately on the menu - but other than that - we have to score this restaurant high for its great warm service, wine list and amazing food.

Deserving of its Michelin star

Experience at Cru was very good. Service from start to finish was exceptional (although only maybe a quarter full). Wine list is rather daunting, but the sommelier guided us to two moderately priced half-bottles that held up well to the food considerinig my date had duck and I had lobster. Hers was by far the better choice. Desserts were also quite good. Food tends to be nuanced and complex but not overpowering. Atmosphere is subdued and bordering on bland but appropriate. You won't find the menu a bargain but also not obscenely priced as a three-course prix fixe.

I went with my girlfriends for a birthday, we had so much fun! Dinner was wonderful, one of my friends wanted to change her order and they were more than happy to do it. The sommelier, a cute young guy, was so helpful and explained everything about the wines we were drinking, it was really such a great experience. We ended up at the bar after, hanging out with some guys and drinking wine until they closed!

I can highly recommend going to this restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was exceptional. The waiters were extremely professional and made both my companion and me feel extremely special. We both took the tasting menu: it was subtle, refreshing and innovative. This is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants that I have been to in New York.

We tried to cancel as we were tired, but were told that we'd be charged some exuperant amount for cancelling...the concierge at the Peninsula had failed to mention to us their cancellation policy. We tried to explain this but were just told that the Peninsula concierges were 'trouble' and that we should show up if we didn't want to be charged. Unacceptable. We arrived at our reservation time to be informed that we had to wait at the bar. The bartender was too busy making drinks for the waitstaff to offer us anything, so we had nothing. We were seated in 'tornado alley' in between the door to the kitchen and the front door, so we froze. The wine list was impressive though the sommelier wasn't at all helpful in selecting a wine for our meals. The food wasn't memorable and my lobster was served cold, which I sent back. The waiter came back to inform us that the chef had agreed that the lobster was cold. Good for him. The waiter said that coffee was on him. Overwhelmingly unimpressive.

Five friends and I had an unforgettable dinner here last October for my 40th birthday. Nearly a year later, I had the great fortune to enjoy another delicious, creative meal--one of the best I've ever had--with the same warm hospitality and seamless service. The wine list is jaw dropping. Our selections (with a little help from our waiter) paired beautifully with the food. Having a drink with a friend at the beautiful mahogany bar makes for a fine occasion, and the bar staff is always friendly and accommodating.

The food, service, decor can not be beat. This place is top notch. His creativity goes beyond anything I've ever seen. Per Se quality, without the bite in the wallet. I'm still living the experience.

We did the tasting menu with wine here...it was a near-perfect meal, and a relative bargain compared with similar menus around Manhattan. Despite being super-busy, service was excellent, and I would absolutely go back.

Just four days ago we get to CRU for the first time.Sitting was confortable My table for six was on time, and space between tables was more than enough.Try to review the wine list on line available at cru website.Wine prices are great and if you look in detail you can buy mature wines of good vintage at near auction value EJ 1985 Clerico barolo bussia around 114$$.Tasting menu was well served the crudo was great the burratta with caviar pasta and truffle, buttermilk poulard .Definitely I will recomend to a wine and food friend. Sommelier was attentive helpful and not snobiish GO and then you will find Jean Georges wine list a robbery..
