This place was awesome! Although it wasn't as cheap as I had expected, it was completely worth every penny. The food is cooked right in front of you, as the place is tiny, and the service was so friendly. I ordered the Yuba salad to start, which I would completely recommend, and ended with the seafood curry with cheese on top. My friend ordered the prime rib (which came with mushrooms) and a croquette and it was amazing as well. The portions were perfect (I was stuffed!) and it was truly delicious. If you like spicy, get the spiciest as the next to spicy option isn't that hot. Overall, IÂ’d like to eat here 3 times/week. Oh, and a little added fact, they have one of those fancy-time toilets in the tiny bathroom. Worth the visit, even if just for that!

A good curry in a restaurant is hard to come by around here. Curry-ya does a great job and is definitely the most satisfying of any Japanese curry I've had in NYC. Otherwise, it is a pretty unremarkable place and ultimately, the curry is not all that much better than making it at home with some House curry blocks from Mitsuwa. The draw for me is that at Curry-ya I can go super-spicy - something I don't get at home b/c the kids can't handle it. My experience there was the polar opposite to Nicole R's. That's the main reason I'm reviewing at all. It is not a great restaurant, but it is not nearly as bad as she says it is.

I am a longtime faithful of Rai Rai Ken, so when they stopped selling curry to open a curry shop next door, I was excited. Our first attempt to eat there was a bit frustrating but the food was not bad. A bit overpriced for what it was, with exceedingly slow and incompetent service. Second attempt: they told us there was a 30 minute wait (for a counter/bar eatery!) so we decided to order to go. 5 minutes after we ordered to go ( about 8 min after we asked about wait times) 6 people left the restaurant. We were annoyed at the incompetence but decided to just wait for our takeout. More time goes by. Now its been about 20 minutes since we ordered. The server comes outside to tell us that one of the items we ordered, TO GO, 20 MINUTES AGO, isnÂ’t available today. They only have about 10 items on the menu in the first place, and why did she wait 20 minutes to tell us? Geez. We went next door and ate ramen. Hopefully this suck fest will go out of business and rai rai ken will start carrying curry again.

If I lived within Curry-Ya's delivery zone, I would seriously consider getting an order of their pork cutlet curry every single day. Yup, it's that good. Regardless of what you decide to have with their homemade curry (grilled chicken or deep-fried shrimp are also good choices), I guarantee that your first bite will have you thanking the food gods.
