The decor, including beautiful flowers, low lighting and generous room (unlikely in a New York restaurant), along with it's reputation builds expectation. I sat at the bar and ordered a White Cosmopolitan from their Ice menu which was gorgeous looking, a bright flower the centerpiece for my drink, frozen in a ball of ice. After being seated with a girlfriend (celebrating her 40th birthday), we were given small cushions to put our purses on top of. Nice detail. We opted for the 6 course tasting menu. I had the duck as the first course which was not too strong, but light enough and paired with a fluffier version of toast than I'm used to with this type of dish. We were served bread around the same time and I opted for the olive which was salty and just soft enough. Our next course was the tuna which was probably one of the best dishes of the night. I could have had 2 more plates of the same. I had the Indian style Langoustina next which was amazing after the tuna. The corn was just tender enough and the flavors in the seafood were savory. Next was the bacon wrapped swordfish which I didn't care for. The textures were mushy and flavors were lost. The next dish was the veal. The veal was tender and juicy, but the other items on my plate were unmemorable. We finished with a flurry of desert...birthday cake, delicious chocolate cake, petit fours, madeleines, tiny chocolate pieces...phew. Overall an experience, and one I'm glad I had, but probably won't repeat.

I've probably eaten here 10 times or so over the years, so figure 50+ dishes given some tasting menus, what is most memorable about the place is how unmemorable any of it has all been. They used to have a really great sommelier, though, named Jean-Luc Le Du. Boulud is another one of these dudes who can't make one restaurant really outstanding, so he opens 10+ restaurants and presides over his "empire."

I have visited several 1-3 star restaurants in Europe and I can't understand how Daniel is regarded as a three star restaurant. I spent $1000 on a taste menue for two. First it was only eight courses - I'm used to at least 12. The selected wines were good but out of the eight courses only one gave me a close "wow" experience. For a three star place ALL courses should give me a "wow" factor! Also one of the corses was ordinary duck/goose liver - what is that??? Even though it's good I can buy my own can of goose liver... Another thing, we didn't wear our best but ok because we travelled light on our way to a djungle tour in Costa Rica. We were kind of treated like second class people. One recommendation: Spend your money elsewhere!

In my travels to New York from Australia, I was told about Daniel and managed to secure a booking for 1 - me. I arrived and they treated me fantastically and made sure I enjoyed the night and the food. After I'd ordered my courses and wine from a very polite & knowledgeable sommelier I received a pre- starter of 3 little tastings on a beetroot theme. I then recieved a melon soup was simply delicious and then came my trio of mackerel - small tastes for an appetiser and again the tastes & flavours were awesome. I selected the fish special for the night at the waiter susggestion and the combinations and the taste were just out of this world. Finaly I ordered for desert a vecherin which was done in two levels - strawberry & blueberry with amazing thin wafers of sponge and these little honeycomb straws. Then then suprised me by bringing another little chocolate desert and if I wasnt done then came the petit fors - no wonder this is one of the world's top ten restuarants. By the way, the service was outstanding - warm, genuine and not pushy ...they were brilliant. All I can say is thank for the experience.

It's tough to step up and pretend like we are food critics when, in face, most of us our not. Being a chef at a well renowned restaurant, I applaud Daniel for preparing such amazing dishes! If I could give them more than 10 for food and service, I would! It's tough to drop so much cash for a meal and feel like it was money well spent, at Daniel, it was!

I had the best dinner ever here. Not only was the food fantastic, the service was out of this world. We also got a tour of the kitchen! Really great time here, worth going and I dream of returning!

I enjoyed a near perfect gastronomic experience last night at Daniel's. It is little use saying the venue the service the variety tastes and textures of the food were all excellent (they were) but three things were not. The 40 minute wait to be seated after we arrived perhaps 2 minutes before our reservation time and the heavy bordelaise style sauce which dominated one fish dish and also the aged dominated the Angus beef. for a full review see 1001dinners.com

Their mixologist/bar manager is a complete genius. BehindtheBurner.com did a fabulous segment that shows how he creates his exotic strawberry "pearls". Linky here! http://video.behindtheburner.com/video/Cocktails-with-Mixologist-Xavie It's so freaking cool, great insight into the restaurant!

After I got my hair done at Rodolfo Valentin, the best hairdresser in New York, I asked my husband to invite me for dinner at a restaurant matching the quality of my look. He said: “Daniel”, where else? . Wonderful meal, chic service and there are not enough words to describe such a great culinary experience.
