I dined at David Burke with 3 friends in April 2012. The food was pretty good, but the service was terrible. A waitress accidentally spilled red wine all over a brand new leather purse instantly ruining it. Despite the manager's promises to restore it to its original pristine condition or reimburse me for it, David Burke refuses to pay for the loss (and, they never returned the bag!) They do not return phone calls or emails and have done their best to push me off with the hope that I will get frustrated and give up. In addition, they only reduced the bill by $18 -- the price of a cheeseburger (which I had to beg for b/c they accidentally brought me the wrong menu listing the burger. The burger was being served in the bar upstairs.) Let's just say that $18 was a very small percentage of the total bill. Needless to say, after the way I have been treated, my friends, family and I will never dine at a David Burke establishment again. I would not expect such a poor level of service from a high quality established brand such as this. Food quality is clearly important, but so is the full customer experience. Just remember that if you choose to dine at David Burke Kitchen, the corporate mantra appears to be that the customer is unimportant.

Went for breakfast on a Sunday. Not very busy yet the staff struggled to care for their customers. Instead, they talked among themselves. Food was what you'd expect from a midtown diner -- poor.

Given the reviews of this place, we felt like we visited a wrong restaurant. Just went there on Saturday, one of the hotter days, July 23, 2011. Had reservations for a group prior to. The restaurant had no AC working!!!!! They failed to notify the people who made reservations ahead of time about this "inconvenience" even though had trouble with it for days. What is even worse is that not once did they apologize for the fact that AC was not working. Not even a complimentary cold soda was offered, forget appetizer or coffee. None of the servers knew the menu well enough to explain it before the orders were made. They failed to inform us that the porterhouse steak special on the menu has.... finished. The waiters were very unprofessional taking the food away before everyone on the table had a chance to taste it. We literally had to scream at one to leave the food alone. Oh yes, and they also ran out of skim milk...and forgot to notify the guest who ordered it. Very Very disappointing experience!!!! Will never come back and will not recommend to anyone! There are tons of high end restaurants in the city that would have handled this situation in a gratifying professional manner. And oh yes, the manager himself, never came out... even though we asked for him.

We love this guy. We have visited his restaurants many times. Kitchen was fantastic. Davis Burke was actually there. The decor is pretty cool but the food was incredible. Everything from the inventive drinks to the bone marrow appetizer to the lamb and then to the do it yourself donuts was absolutely amazing. Also, the staff was perfect. Knowledgeable and personable. We can't wait to go back and we recommend it to all of our friends.

The food was delicious and the service very attentive. At first I thought the decor might be a little too stark and cold from the pictures I had seen, but it was actually very bright and welcoming. Definitely go before getting a res. becomes impossible.
