I have to say, after reading some of these reviews- I am appauled by what I am reading.......and quiet offended I might add ...Difaras is the best slice I have ever had- and that is not coming lightly from a person who eats pizza quiet frequently and traveled and still cant beat it- this is hands down the best pizza I've had.....Granted Dom is gettin older he occasionally burns the crust a bit somtimes but a little burn on the crust does not take away the taste of the three cheeses, fresh basil- delicious crust thats firm but still crispy and sweet tomato sauce!! Its amazing!!!! heaven!! the dirty old oven and smoke stained walls makes this a real NY tradition and Brooklyn landmark- if you want a fancy dinner where you need a reso and a sport jacket go elsewhere.......if you want really authentic pizza- come here.....maybe some people are just used to "pizzareia uno and dominos" thats wrote some other reviews..... the #1 rated pizza in the world is Pizzaria de Michelle in Naples Italy- if you can make it to Italy......Difaras is the best thing going "real world italian style"-
The Quality of the Pizza is disappointing!

I have been making the trip from Manhattan to Brooklyn's J on Q consistently for more than two decades (sometimes accompanied by friends, co-workers), but from now onwards I will pause. Not because of the price ($ 4/20 regular slice/pie), the wait, the overall dirtiness of the place, Dom's bare hand contact with food, not wearing a hat and cutting basil with a dirty scissor. The only reason is this: The quality of the pizza is disappointing! I have no idea if the oven needs to be fixed, Maestro Domenico DeMarco lost his tempo when to spin the pie and to remove it from the oven or it is a mixture of both. With each visit, the bottom of my slice/pie was burnt and the whole product was neither crispy nor tasty.

I live in Manhattan and twice a month take the Q to J, to savor slices made by the Master. Sadly, I found that over the last year the quality has slipped; with each visit, slips further. The work of making pies for 45 years sounds romantic, but it's punishing work. On my last visit, I waited half an hour for a fresh slice and a square of Sicilian. Both were burnt on the bottom, the sauce a little sour. I suspect DeMarco is losing his tempo, when to spin the pie, when to remove it from the oven. Waiting, I found myself in conversation with two middle-aged businessmen, who had ordered a whole pie. When it arrived, they insisted I take a slice. Again I was disappointed. Yes, it was a Di Fara Pizza, but the whole was less than the sum of its part. I've been making this trip for more than a decade, now, I'm afraid, it may be time to see the Maestro hang up his apron. Bravo Domenico, Bravo. Go today, tomorrow at the latest, soon there will be no Di Fara, only the idea of Di Fara.

I visited Di Fara again recently and they've raised the price of a slice to $4 (and $20 for a pie). Now this is quite shocking, particularly for a small slice, but it does seem to have cut the wait considerably. As a neighbor this is more bad news than good, I won't be visiting as often, but if you want to make the pilgrimage to try this unique and wonderful pizza I'd say it's sort of good news. The wait used to be 20-30 minutes for a slice and good luck getting more than one, on my last visit there were fresh slices waiting for me when I arrived. I don't know if this experiment will last since business appears to be way off but I believe Mr. DeMarco has earned the right to make a little more money while working a bit less, I'm just thankful he's still there at all.
Pizza cant get any better

Everything is fantastic in that pizza: - thin crust that tastes slightly burnt flour! - tomato sauce almost uniformly melted with cheese - parmeggiano and fresh basil on top. Perfect balance. Sure youll have to wait but its definitely worth it.
Cant get pizza like this in Texas!

My daughter and I traveled from Texas to NY for springbreak. We got alittle lost going from the City to Brooklyn, but when we asked others on the streets, they knew exactly where we wanted to go! We had to wait a long time and my daughter was just about ready to give up but the wait was so worth it! It is not the best looking place, but let me tell you what, the taste so out weighted the appearance! I loved the little man in the dirty apron.I am a big fan of garlic, so when I could smell the garlic before I took a bite, I knew that I would just love it. I just wish I could have had a cold beer with it....but hey I lived without it! My daughter even wants to go back before we head back home to Texas! That says alot, she does not wait well, and she is willing to wait to get another slice of this pizza! Thank you for telling my friend about your family resturant!

Having visited NYC many times and sampled lots of pizza I wasn't sure that spending 3-4 hours of our father-son weekend in the city on this "escapade" would be worth it. It was Andrews 16th birthday and into to the big apple and his friend ex Brooklyn had suggested the visit. So we went! Their is nothing I can say to expand on what others have said - simply put the best, most irresistable pizza both I've ever had. And the regulars there told some funny stories. Just one - an Orthodox jewish friend of one patron has him smuggle in the DiFara to his office from time to time. His defense - "I'm not perfect - do you think I can go thru life without ever eating DiFara!" Thanks for the experience - this is what makes NYC the place to be!

I grew up in Brooklyn and have lived in rural southeast OH for nearly 35 years...DiFara's was always the best when I attended Midwood High School and EVERY time i visit NYC I make sure to go back to DiFara's...Dom is a one man show of skill and style. Until i moved to Ohio I really didn't realize that people would put "toppings" on pizza even though i had seen it listed....NO toppings are needed on this most special cheese pizza...The sandwiches are great too....but we always order a pie...which takes a while...and have a slice or 2 while we wait....STILL the BEST...can't wait to go back again.
