I was skeptical since the wait is so long and there are a bunch of tourists also waiting and taking pictures of the little old man making the pizza. Once we finally got our pie, I completely was sold. The pizza was absolutely delicious and reminded me of what real Italian pizza used to taste like. The condition of the place, long wait and crowd of people can turn you off but it really is worth the wait if you've never had this pizza before. After that I would recommend trying to go during the day on a weekday for possibly a shorter wait and hassle.

I just came home from Difaros pizza in Brooklyn. After reading the new issue of NY Magazine and seeing the rave review for this pizza, we decided to try it. I double parked as my husband ran in. He paid his $25 for a pie and was then told it would be a 1 hour wait. He came back to the car and we waited. And waited and waited and waited. Needless to say, after 1 1/2 hours the only thing to be had was a nasty comment from the most unpleasant woman behind the counter who takes the orders and dishes the attitude. The filthy and decrepid place is crawling with (besides the roaches and mice that cause the health department to close them down sporatically) people from all over NY and NJ. I live 10 minutes away and would never put myself through trying to get the supposed best pizza in NY. I'd rather get pizza not as great and have my sanity than stand and wait for what you think was gold. By the way, rather than waiting another minute I got my money back and went to another great pizza place, L &B.

Not only did I have to wait 45 minutes for an overpriced pizza, but I had to listen to the inane blathering of multiple groups of tourists. Say goodbye to an era. I even heard that DeMarco's in West Village shut down and has become Mezzaluna. Sad really.

I should have trusted my gut instinct when we stepped in at 2:20 yesterday afternoon. I should have walked away. It took five minutes just to figure out that we had to push through the crowd to place our order. We placed it at 2:25 and got our pice at 4:00. No, I'm not exaggerating. Though good, there was a hard object in mine on which I broke my tooth. I don't know why the health dept has not shut down. It is filthy. At 3:30, they locked the door with about 50 people inside. That can't be legal. Sorry folks. I say don't waste your time.

I have to say, after reading some of these reviews- I am appauled by what I am reading.......and quiet offended I might add ...Difaras is the best slice I have ever had- and that is not coming lightly from a person who eats pizza quiet frequently and traveled and still cant beat it- this is hands down the best pizza I've had.....Granted Dom is gettin older he occasionally burns the crust a bit somtimes but a little burn on the crust does not take away the taste of the three cheeses, fresh basil- delicious crust thats firm but still crispy and sweet tomato sauce!! Its amazing!!!! heaven!! the dirty old oven and smoke stained walls makes this a real NY tradition and Brooklyn landmark- if you want a fancy dinner where you need a reso and a sport jacket go elsewhere.......if you want really authentic pizza- come here.....maybe some people are just used to "pizzareia uno and dominos" thats wrote some other reviews..... the #1 rated pizza in the world is Pizzaria de Michelle in Naples Italy- if you can make it to Italy......Difaras is the best thing going "real world italian style"-

I have been making the trip from Manhattan to Brooklyn's J on Q consistently for more than two decades (sometimes accompanied by friends, co-workers), but from now onwards I will pause. Not because of the price ($ 4/20 regular slice/pie), the wait, the overall dirtiness of the place, Dom's bare hand contact with food, not wearing a hat and cutting basil with a dirty scissor. The only reason is this: The quality of the pizza is disappointing! I have no idea if the oven needs to be fixed, Maestro Domenico DeMarco lost his tempo when to spin the pie and to remove it from the oven or it is a mixture of both. With each visit, the bottom of my slice/pie was burnt and the whole product was neither crispy nor tasty.
