Went for Sunday Supper ($20.09 three course menu) and was blown away. There were only 2 other tables in the restaurant (both good/bad), but the rest of the experience was incredible. Great service, excellent food, beautiful decor and unreal price. Will be going back soon

The guys running this kitchen are worth checking out. They know how to cook, they know how to present, they know how to make your palate sing. Especially notable if you want to impress a date or host a business dinner. The decor, the food, the service. It's all exceptional. As a friend said as she walked up the stairs to the formal dining area, "Holy God, it's like going from steerage to first-class. On the Titanic." It's that stunning. Phenomenal. One of the best meals I've had.

It is rare that decor, hospitality, food and wine come together is such a stunning way. The entire experience is a reminder that the glamour of New York can still be found. I especially found the chef and staff to be warm and attentive. The care and attention to detail created an event that I am sure not to forget soon, if ever. It was pure culinary theater, delighting the senses in every way. Worth every penny.

Country at the Carlton Hotel in Gramercy is the siter to Geoffrey Zakarian's Town restaurant inside the Chambers Hotel. A dinner first encounters the bustling casual Cafe at Country on the lower level defore entering the refined elegance of Country on the second level. The David Rockwell designed space exudes refinement and a sophisticated elegance of dinning of an earlier day in New York City. Professional staff at every position provides the fine dinning experience one expects at such an establishment. The menu is composed of fixed price choices. We chose the four course menu and found we had ample options such that we selected different dishes for each course. Additionally the chef provided demi-tastings throughout the meal resulting in two eight course meals. The ingredients and preparations were outstanding, providing bridges between classic French, Modern French and Contemporary American cuisines. The kitchen appears equally talented in the preparation of both meats and seafood. Of the eight selected course only one was less than outstanding. It is a pleasant surprise to find outstanding food, wine, service and ambiance at a relatively under-promoted place such as Country.

I love the way this restaurant is set up with upstairs seating and a more relaxed arrangement downstairs. When I went the food was outstanding and the service was prompt with friendly staff. I had a great experience and would certainly come back.

Be forewarned, though this write-up indicates the prix fixe is $85-110, the prices are actually $105-130. Still, it's a good meal and they will do wine pairings for an additional $85. I do wish their wine list included half bottles, which allows for more variety when two are dining together. We ended up getting wine by the glass. First Course: squid, which lovely. Second was fried quail eggs (a treat!). Third was bison, cooked excellently. Fourth was a cheese plate, their selection was adequate but hardly impressive. None of this includes the two plates of amuse bouche, which were the perfect beginning to the evening. The service wasn't great, but we weren't seated until 10:15 so it's possible the team wanted to go home. In all, a meal worth having, but probably only once.
