Nothing special at all, not worth a visit

Everything about the place is just ok. The food is passable, but there is better BBQ in the city. The decor is a little cheesy and the service is ok. I didn't feel fully satisfied by anything I had (pulled pork as an entree) and the whole time I wished I had picked another place. The side dishes (corn, etc.) tasted just like the frozen microwaveable ones you can buy at the grocery store.

Syracuse native weighs in

Since New York state does not have its own native bbq style like other regions of the country, the folks at Dinosaur BBQ have really sort of adopted a united nations of bbq approach to its recipes, and it really has worked well for them. I am from Syracuse, NY and have enjoyed the original restaurant near downtown Syracuse. I moved to Rochester, NY and didn't think they could duplicate the experience, and I was happy to discover that the food is just as amazing there as the original. I am eager to go to the one in Harlem the next time I'm in the big apple, and see for myself if they have been able to three-peat with food and experience that matches its upstate, ny brethren. I have never had the ribs so I can't comment on the haters. However, I can attest to their amazing pulled pork sandwich, and beef brisket which are both awesome to behold. Their BBQ chicken sandwiches and cornbread are also great. While I'm sure you can point to individual dishes at other BBQ places throughout the country that are likely better, I think as a total package Dino BBQ is a great restaurant style BBQ joint with a bit badass biker attitude Dino bbq brings a little bit of the upstate, ny juice of the 'CUSE to Harlem! Dino was also recently profiled on a recent episode of the travel channel's mega hit man versus food. Syracuse edition! Syracuse, NY in the heart of Central New York state has some seriously good eats.

Pretty Damn Good!

Before NY I lived in the South for 10 years so I've tried a ton of bbq over the years. Dinosaur is not in the same league as my favorite joints down South but it was still pretty damn good, and better than I expected for Manhattan. I had the ribs which were quite tasty if a little dry (best ribs should be fall off the bone tender and juicy with a bit of a charred glaze on the outside). The cornbread was perfect and for my sides I had the mac and cheese and their cajun corn (which is corn off the cob mixed with spices and red peppers). The corn was delicious though I thought the mac and cheese just OK. I got take out so I didn't get the full dining experience but the staff were friendly despite the fact that it was a Sunday and packed.

If you like to drink and eat good BBQ this is the place for you!

This is my husband's favorite place! Dino is fun and the food is reliable and tasty -- if you like to drink and eat good BBQ this is the place for you. It's just a hike to get to. We need another one downtown!

It's a Joke

The food was good and nasty, cold and small portions. I had the pile high pulled pork., and i must say that i should have gone to Mc Donalds and order a Big mac and super size the fryes instead. The glass of water had a long black hair in it, i let that go. But the food taste like it came from a box, the ribs were burned. the corn bread tasted like it had pellets in it. If you can cook i wouldn't recommend this place to you.

Better BBQ in the Big Apple

My job takes me to many BBQ-centric cities and I've eaten my share of ribs, pulled pork and brisket. I was excited to try Dinosaur as I've eaten at other NY BBQ joints and been fairly impressed. Unfortunately I can't say the same here. I had the Tres Hombres which gives you a sample of ribs, pork and brisket. The ribs had a very good flavor but were a bit small and stringy. The pulled pork was DRY like it had been cooked and then set under a heat lamp for a while. The brisket had a good smokey flavor but the meat was tough. The sides, thank goodness, were pretty good. With so many other good BBQ spots in the city I would not put this one on my list.

i totally recommend this place, however avoid the weekends it get extremely crowded and you must wait hours for a decent table, I think they accept reservations but i'm not sure. The food is well prepared. Their burgers and mac and cheese are yummy. ribs are good also, although i feel theirs not much of a variety to choose from when it comes to sides. The homestyle portions make up for their lack of sides and good wines. Great place to take your friends for some comfort grub.

Stick with the Sides

The mac and cheese were very good. Collard greens were even better--spicy, moist, memorable. Exactly four ounces of each side dish, along with a teensy slice of unremarkable cornbread. The ribs looked really good; they had a medium spice rub and basting glaze on them, which I prefer over the KC style sweet stuff. Unfortunately the pork was charred and stringy on top, chewy, fatty and grey below. Maybe this is what dinosaur meat is supposed to taste like! Still, it's an interesting place and location, might return to drink beer and hear music with friends.

Great food with a wonderful selection of beers. Bring your appetite as you will get stuffed. This place is so much better than Blue Smoke, Virgil's, Dallas BBQ etc... The only thing this place does not have are the rib tips which you can find at Rub. For the reviewer who did not like this place I have to wonder if he is used to tv dinners.
