We work across the street and thought that this would be a quick place for lunch. Nope! 1 hour 45 minutes later, we got the check. Our tasty salads with shaved feta and our sodas came quickly, but we didn't get our bureks until we reminded the waitress, 45 minutes later, that we hadn't received our food yet. She was very nice and apologetic about it, but didn't seem to know what we were talking about. Bureks arrived lukewarm but still semi-tasty. I'd order again, but call ahead for takeout next time...and would get the spinach burek again. Still, I've had WAY better bureks in the Bronx and Staten Island.

I asked my waitress about the bureks, and she told me that Djerdan doesn't bake them on premises. Instead, they buy them from elsewhere and reheat them. That was quite obvious. If you enjoy reheated leftovers, this is the place for you. If you want fresh food, go elsewhere.

Uzdravlje.

I went to lunch there today and was pleasantly surprised to find such a quaint and clean place that offers wonderful filling comfort food like burek around here. I have never heard of burek before but it reminds me a little of Greek phylo dough pastries except it's WAY bigger and tastier.YUM! I also had a hearty salad that was delicious. My friend had a gourmet hamburger (don't know how it's pronounced in Hungarian) but it was pretty awesome too. The atmosphere is also quite lovely - - not sure iif a super tall, dark haired and handsome waiter had anything to do with it ;-) *wink, wink*

I tried chevapi and LOVED IT. The food tastes a little like a traditional Southern comfort food and it's just delish. I love the red pepper spread they serve. The service is nice and friendly too.

Well, it was my first time trying out Balkan cuisine, and it was a wonderful experience. The waitress was very helpful in helping me figure out what to order, and offered several tasty suggestions. I ended up ordering the spinach Burek, which was excellent. I have absolutely no complaints. It wasn't too hard to fine. Just walk on 38th from 7th to 8th and it will be on your right. And as a fellow reviewer said. "look down, not up."

Djerdan is a little difficult to spot, as the entrance is overhung by the sign for a pizza place upstairs. Look down, not up. Djerdan serves Bosnian-style pljeskavica (hamburger) and cevapi (ground meat kabob), which means they are not made with pork. I prefer the Serbian mixed-meat style, but that is a matter of taste. Ex-yugos will appreciate the ajvar (roasted red pepper sauce), which is probably the same Vipro (Macedonian) brand sold at Fairway. Many people have told me it is the best ajvar this side of their baba's homemade. New Yorkers who order the burger should note that it is not necessary to eat the bun. Eat some or all if you like, but save room for the desserts, especially the tolumba.
