I've been in the area for a while and I'm upset I didn't find this place sooner! The decor is very romantic with a rustic feel. The wine list is excellent and the wine we ordered was so good we took down the name. Food was great, we had a pizza-like dish we had never even heard of, which is always fun. Great cheese selection as well. The only negative i'd say is that you can feel the L train running under the restaurant, but that doesn't matter because the atmosphere is so relaxing.

Awful Service

It's such a disappointment that D.O.C. gets so many things comfortably right -- an intriguing wine selection, an appealing combination of ingredients in their paninis, quality meats, and daily specials that are worthy of picking up your forks -- but the service is unreliable. When it's good it's lovely, but when it's not it's the worst of inconsiderate, inattentive and on our last visit outright rude. Not only did we have to get up to ask our waiter for our bill (after initially receiving the wrong wine, waiting for and never receiving the bread we'd asked to accompany our meat and cheese platter, and waiting for over 20 minutes for the bill while the waiter sat at a table chatting to the bartender), but the manager actually ran down the street after us when we left an appropriately appreciative tip (10%). He asked and we explained about the poor service whereupon he told us not to come back. Since tips aren't mandatory, it seems reasonable that if the waiter desired a more substantial one he might have conducted his service befittingly. Shame on you boys!

I had dinner with a friend at this place just last week.
It was fabulous!
If you are looking for well prepared, fresh ingredients with great wine you should go.
Worth the drive from the city.

Hmm, I'm a little flummoxed by the previous review griping about bad service at D.O.C. Wine Bar in Williamsburg. I just moved to the neighborhood and have started dining here on a regular bases and have only good things to report in regards to the wait-staff and the overall dining experience. This is the sort of homey, European spot where the staff lets you get settled in, brings you all you need for your meal, wine, water, food, and then leaves you in peace. Unlike the neurotic Manhattan waiting trend where every half glass must immediately be filled and plates removed before the rest of the table has finished, DOC is all about slow, comfortable eating amongst friends with room to talk and pause between courses. They welcome everyone into their dining room as if old acquaintances, with evenings often ending with free Mirto for the stragglers and slightly tipsy dancing. When good weather permits, the old wooden peasant tables are brought outside and you can enjoy a peaceful outer boroughs meal, just two blocks from the Bedford L train!

D.O.C. is a special place where the food is
exceptional and always complimented beautifully with
the server's wine recommendation. When you sit inside
your worries will soon disappear and you'll
feel as though you have been transported to another
place in time when things where much simpler.
Don't forget to save room for dessert, because your
evening will not be complete without trying one, two,
Or, heh heh, three to complete your food
extravaganza! Even after dessert you won't leave
feeling too full, but instead you'll leave with the
most amazing feeling of satisfaction! Because the plates
are tapas style it's fun to try several
different things and share, which makes this a very
romantic restaurant, but also a great place to go with friends!

I went on a not so busy afternoon, ordered a bottle of champagne and a sandwich with my friend and after two glass of champagne, no sandwich? I went inside and ran into the waitress who then proceeded to tell me I HAD NOT ordered a sandwich. I told her I had, but really, did it make a different; she so wanted to believe that I hadn't, I just paid and left. So, long story short, service sucks and the menu isn't too vast for tapas type things, specially if you don't eat meat.

We were walking around Williamsburg, found this delightful place. Everything we had was a great combiniation of flavors. The staff is very helpful with wine selections and the bill was very reasonable (under $70 with a bottle of wine, dessert, and tip). Get there early, as it gets busy quickly.

...when you go inside at DOC you feel that you are in Italy, is very cozy, the decor is impressive, the staff very friendly and helpful, the wine list simple but well done and the food very good quality...I will go back again and again.......
Thank you Doc!

the decor is nice, the food fresh, but now i know the importance of SERVICE. will never go back to this place because the server had on the most sour face, he forgot one of the entrees, he forgot the wine, we had to ask for the bread that the other server was bring to her tables, had to go get our own salt from the kitchen, our own vinegar and oil, then they charged us $40 to bring in a cupcake for our friends birthday. claimed that all restaurants have a cake charge. not true! and a charge is incurred when the place has their own desserts, which this place had no desserts. ICK!! Spend your money at another restaurant where they are happy that you are there!

Although this establishment was charming enough (visually that is), the wine selection good and affordable, and the crowd interesting in a Williamsburg sort of way, the proprieter was unbelievealy rude to his paying customers.
