The service here is GROSS. The lady that works behind the counter is absolutely dreadful. Light skin, brown ponytail. Very nasty woman.

Pretty, but pretentious and crowded

The staff is never friendly, and often rude; you typically need to clean your own table before you can even eat or drink; and it is extremely crowded. If you get passed this, and don't mind the uniform individualism (Mac is a must), the pretension of this place and its so-so food, then you will love it. That is, if you can squeeze, fit, and blend in.

I used to go to Doma a lot--before the service got atrocious. Almost all of the cashiers/servers are curt and grumpy, especially the spiky-haired woman and black-haired one. I agree with "West Village shame"--there are barely any hellos or thank yous. They also carry glasses by the rim, a totally unhygienic practice. There's not much bussing of tables, either, so expect to bring some one else's dirty mugs and plates to the black tub near the kitchen in order to get a table of your own. It's a real shame since it's a cozy spot with tasty sandwiches right around my corner.

As ideal as it gets in the NY coffeeshop scene

The adjectives that come to mind for this establishment are comfortable, cozy, intellectual, relaxed and aromatic. Grab a seat by the sunlit tables on the weekends and you might catch yourself lingering there for hours. As for the scene, you'll find no lack of literary folks here from crossword/Scrabble fiends to aspiring poets. There are also students tapping away on their laptop (although they do have a no-plug-in until late afternoon rule on weekends and a cell-phone-free policy). A few quirks to note here -- egg whites are served only on weekdays, pet cookies by the register which should not be confused with the cake samples...

Doma should be a lovely place to go hang out. The food is tasty, a little different to the usual, a bit pricey maybe but not too bad (be careful what you order though their boiled egg dish is a boiled egg and a bit of bread...) But the staff just creates the most miserable atmosphere. I would buy from Doma daily if they were not so horrible. Literally not a hello, please or thank you. I wish I could support my local independent business but I will never go there again. I've seen the manager stand with arms folded watching a huge line of customers and one truly miserable staff member working the counter - clearly their terrible attitude comes from the top down. If you want to be a cool, local hangout don't behave like you're running a bank or Starbucks. Funky art on the walls or no, this place is a morgue.
