It is time to rewrite the profile for this restaurant. The food and service were impecible and the decor was elegant. Unlike other NYC restaurants the acoustics were perfect and you could enjoy a private conversation. But the food and desserts are the reason to go to Dovetail. The food was creative and delicious. Next time I may have to start with desert because they were fabulous!

Last night was the celebration of spring on the plate. The star of the evening _ Halibut with black truffles...dinner was spectacular, service top notch, atmosphere lovely. The chef was so accommodating and replaced all meat dishes with pescaterian options. lovely place

My girlfriend made a reservation for by birthday at Dovetail as we had been talking about going to the restaurant since moving into the neighborhood. We were excited about the chef's experience at French Laundry because we recently took a trip to Napa and heard great things. The tasting menu did not disappoint! The butternut squash soup was seriously amazing and every course was somehow better than the last. By the time we got to desert I was in a fine dining state of euphoria and they even served us an extra desert on the house for my birthday. The wine list was outstanding and the service was exquisite. This should be on every foodie's list as a destination restaurant. Come visit us in the UWS; it is definitely worth the trip!

The last question of this review asked "Would you go back?" Hell yes I would go back to Dovetail. First and foremost, when you spend your hard earned money at a restaurant (especially when your money pays the salary of the employees of the restaurant), you expect the employees to display a certain manner and respect towards their customers. The employees of Dovetail were welcoming, respectful, helpful, and all of the above. In addition to the service, the food of Dovetail was fantastic. The food superseded all the expectations I had after reading all these reviews. For my appetizer, I chose the foie gras and it was delicious. For my entree, I chose the pistachio crusted duck. The duck was cooked to perfection. Lastly, for desert, I chose the chocolate souffle. The souffle was bitter yet sweet at the same time. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

I and my husband have gone to many other top rated restaurants in NYC. If Dovetail is not ranked one of the top rated restaurants in NYC, then it SHOULD be. The minute you step through the front door, you are greeted with a smile. Thereafter, the waitor/waitress will treat you with the utmost repect once you are seated at your table. The flavor of the two apetizers we ordered popped in our mouths. We expected the entres to be just as good, but they exceed our expectations. The "baby pig" and the "halibut" were cooked to perfection. I definitely recommend ordering the "baby pig." Lastly, the dessert. We ordered the "bitter chocolate souflet." The souflet was fluffy on the outside and warm and light in the inside. I will definitely reommend Dovetail to my friends, family, and the WORLD.

It was my first time at Dovetail but frankly cant say I would go back. The food was good but didnt blow me away at all and portions were small, even for the sophisticated restaurant it aspires to be. As we were leaving, we couldnt think of anything we had that had been great. Service was very attentive and yet unintrusive; the decor was simple but sleek, tables nicely spaced from one another and calm ambiance where one could enjoy conversation. Overall, everything was good but nothing was great and I thought it was a poor value proposition (price vs quality). I would try to avoid going back.

I was so sad when my favorite restaurant in NYC closed last year, and so I've been looking for a replacement. This is it! The food here is utterly amazing, the decor is perfect (sleek, clean, yet cozy), the service is perfect (attentive, but not intrusive), and the entire experience was delightful. I love this place.

Would come back just for the beet salad, the amazing cornbread and the mango souffle! Wonderful wine list.

Anyone who doesn't mistake complication for complexity, attitude for chic, silly for fun should avoid this place at all costs. The basement room is bleak, but the crowded room upstairs, for which you will have to wait a long time at the most uncomfortable bar, is not much better. The waiter messed up the orders, the lobster was undercooked in a sickening way, the wine list was overpriced, and the desserts were simply foul (why make hibiscus ice cream? It was sour, not sophisticated; as for beer ice cream... it was an insult to both ice cream and beer. And to all the sweet tooths of mankind. Seriously, go to 81 instead.

I had brunch here for my 30th. The service was great and we got a great deal. i was not blown away by the food, however. the appetizers were good but not great - weird transitioning from cold cauliflower soup and duck meatballs to a mini pb&j parfait. the roast chicken with gnocchi was delicious but the fish was average. It seems pretty hit or miss. Would love to come back and try their dinner tasting or Sunday suppa though, they take too much care in their work to not give them another chance.
