I was looking forward to Dovetail and was not disappointed by the decor or the great selection of sherry and wines, Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the food and the service. The brussel sprout leaf salad to start was good, and I was looking forward to my entree, the Lamb,as I had read that it was exceptional. But unfortunately mine was so salty that I could not eat it and had to send it back. The service was odd. At the bar, they helpful but a little overwhelmed by serving the restaurant. In the main room, the waiters seemed erratic and lacking co-ordination. They were running backwards and forwards, throwing down plates, then picking them up two minutes later, then placing down fresh ones. Later on it seemed as though they had run out of plates - I wonder why? Best of luck- these are small issues, that I am sure can be resolved.

Dining at Dovetail was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The space was simple, but inviting and comfortable. I was with four friends and we sampled a number of the offerings between us. The Brussel sprout salad is a great starter filled with great flavor. I tasted my friends sweetbreads and as a recent convert, I found them wonderful. For entrees I had the scallops which were delicious. My friends had duck and sea bass which they found amazing as well. My Cirtus dessert was not quite lemony enough for me, but you can't have everything. I can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu. It's great and even in my neighborhood. What could be better than that!

We went to Dovetail for a Sunday evening family dinner. The food was tremendous - - the chicken was a true treat and probably the most delicious of our entrees. The lamb was over-salty, but perfectly cooked and my mum enjoyed it. There were five of us at a rather large table, so I would recommend asking to squeeze into a four person space rather than sitting at a super large table for five. However, the round table we were seated at would be a great venue if you are planning on 8 or 10 for dinner. The only negatives were that we had to chase down the remaining 1/4 bottle of our prosecco, and the food can be a wee bit too salty. Overall, the five of us had lovely meals, the price is incredibly fair, the staff is attentive and jovial, and we all agreed that we would highly recommend this new UWS treasure.

This was one of our biggest dining disappointments in a long time: We really disliked the service: Our amuse was dropped with no description. The food could not have come out of the kitchen more quickly, VERY rushed. After we were finally able to track down someone to take our wine order (mid-way through our first course) our red wine came out VERY warm. When we flagged down (not easily) our waitress to have this fixed she asked us if we wanted it at "cellar temperature". We were annoyed. It should have come that way (or 63 degrees) without asking. Our dinners came out within five minutes of clearing our first course. At no time during our meal did anyone stop by to ask how we were enjoying our food or whether we need anything. We had the brussel sprout leaf salad w/ dry flavorless cheese, and way too much truffle oil. The pork belly was very good.Delicious. The duck was cooked nicely, but we really disliked the flavor profile-an overly sweet sauce with nothing to balance it. We also had the monkfish with lobster and foie gras. Another big miss ($36). About $135 plus tip. SoDisappointing.
Go for dinner, but not a celebration

My finacé and I went by to sample Dovetails Sunday Suppa menu. The service was lovely, and the food was excellent, even at the end of a long Sunday (we had the 10 pm seating). We were so thrilled that we decided to see if we could book a large party in July for our wedding luncheon. When I went back to meet with the manager, I was not dressed to the nines - and suddenly - service wasn't so good anymore! First, we were made to wait 15 minutes for the manager to speak with us (though we were on time for our appointment with him), and it spiraled down from there. I say, keep it under 10 folks and you'll be fine there. Make your reservations in advance by phone, and know that even on Sundays it fills up rather quickly. Also, the Sunday Suppa menu which is currently $38 is going up in price soon. We're going to Jean Georges for our wedding luncheon instead!
great westside place

I would go back in a NY minute. Just what the westside needed. It will only get better.

We recently celebrated our anniversary at Dovetail and had an amazing culinary experience. The amuse consisted of three extremely different and wonderful samplings. The cheddar cornbread was great. I began my meal with the soft shell crab followed by the red snapper. My husband began with the gnocchi, followed by the rack of lamb and lamb shank combo. We each tasted the others and both of us felt everything was prepared to perfection. The desserts were absolutely delicious, hats off to Vera Tong and her brioche bread pudding. We also had a warm dark chocolate dessert. We definately recommend Dovetail and will go back again. Extraordinary! Oh, don't miss the pink champagne, lite and smooth.
My new favorite restaurant

I have enjoyed Chef John Fraser's cuisine from the first time it touched my palate. Dovetail continues to amaze and impress and now that they are open for Brunch, I will be making more reservations to introduce new friends to Chef Fraser's delights.
Good but not Great

I had really high hopes for Dovetail. I had heard really good things both from friends and from the reviews. I wasn't too disappointed; the food was good, but it was SALTY. Everything from the amuse bouche to the appetizer (we got crab ravioli) to my entre (I got the pork belly) was very salty. Aside from that though, the sauces and the food pairings were wonderful and tasty. The presentation was nice and the service was wonderful. My favorite part of the meal was dessert- I got the brioche bread pudding. It was delicious and everything I hoped it would be.
