Surprised by the bad reviews!

Very surprised by the negative reviews. I have only been treated with the utmost kindness and hospitality at Cipriani Downtown. And for some reason, the bellinis never make it onto my bill. Food wise---I am happy that they have updated their previously pasta-heavy menu, though admittedly there are better places in Manhattan to eat. If your goal is simply to feel satiated, then yes, go somewhere else.

Staggeringly awful service - cross between SNL & Hans Belmer

Blow by blow: 3 different waiters asked if we wanted sparking or still water, after we had already ordered from the first; one waiter had his clean jacket, but the sleeve underneath was a greasy grey; 2 of 6 of the sparse fresh salad greens on the plate were starting to rot; new tablecloth for desert was tossed on with half of the cloth folded diagonally across the table (I guess I was expected to finish the job, but someone eventually came over to do this after I did not); waiters kept interrupting our business conversation to "flirt" & make jokes about using my credit card across the street (not appreciated); 3 occasions when waiters were needed, they were all chatting amongst themselves by the bar & did not notice. Best part about the lunch - attractive people at the other tables.

No love of food....only love of ego.

At our swift seating, we were given bread sticks and toasted sliced Italian bread. no olive oil or plates. My $28 chef salad was presented in cereal bowl, with "matchstick" cut ham and cheese over romaine lettuce. The eggplant parmagiana was in a pool of oil, and way too much cheese. The waiter treated us like cattle. There is no love or respect for food or customer. There is love of ego.

The worst HOST that I have met

The food is amazing, the environment and place are also amazing, but the bald Italian host is the worst that I have ever met in all my life!!! He is disgusting, only care about his currently customer and does not care about the tourist customer. I think he has to take care of his daily clients, but never ever insult the tourist. If you are a tourist, don`t go there...you certainly is going to be mistreated by him: THE BALD ITALIAN HOST!

I really thought this place would suck after reading the litany of horrible reviews it has received. But, I must admit, we had a fine, fun meal there. The service was terrific, the food was excellent. I recommend the brociutto and buffalo mozarella appetizer, the penne in the veal reduction, and the chocolate cake for dessert.

Uptown more so than the downtown post

The downtown location is nice in the summer after a day of shopping, but it is more chaotic than uptown ever was. Here is ok if you are willing to raise your voice to talk with your friends as it's rather loud. Still the same great quality of food.

Cipriani Upstairs - Cozy & sexy

The staircase looks like it leads to a rooftop but once youre inside that small and cozy room with a fireplace, you feel more like in an exclusive ski-resort lounge :-) Music is good and crowd fashionable. Efficient staff. Worth the hype!

Absolutely the WORST place in the City, If Angelina Jolie was at the table next to me, looking in my eyes, laughing at my jokes (a true test of love), maybe even flirting a bit, this STILL is the most incredibly atrocious place to eat or drink, maybe, just maybe in the entire world. I've had better food AND service in a roadside restaurant (hut) in the jungle outside of Bogota (Colombia not Jersey, however it is probably true there too). If the tourist trap restaurants that surround St Mark's Plaza in Venice(Italy not California) lowered their standards to match DC, the Dogue would cast them out of the Plaza. Mayor Mike, where are you when we need ? Please put a stop to the pilage and plundering these demons have wrought. Close 'em up and let the populace rejoice .
