I have been going to Eat for quite awhile and I see how it has evolved to what it is today: a restaurant that doesn't feel like a restaurant serving very fresh food in which you can actually taste the various ingredients in a dish. The menu selection has grown and the serving sizes are much better, now. Dessert portions need to be bigger, though. All salads are amazingly delicious and generous portions are served. The atmosphere, the wait staff, and Jordan, the owner, are all down to earth and this nice vibe is reflected in the healthy and tasty food. This is not trying-hard-to-be-cool cooking. It's a pleasure to eat food that is thoughtfully created based on the freshest ingredients available and prepared in an unpretentious manner. Eat is the only restaurant I know of in North Brooklyn that is committed to utilizing well-sourced ingredients and making truly good food that is healthy and not loaded with heavy sauces, sugar, and other processed ingredients. It clearly attracts a young North Brooklyn customer, but I believe that is slowly changing, as more people open themselves up to a new dining experience and a new style of cooking.

I'm not much of an internet restaurant reviewer, but Eat Cafe deserves serious love. My boyfriend and I go here for brunch on our days off, but I would be here every day if I could. The food is simple, rustic, and so incredibly fresh. Prices are are-you-kidding-me awesome--we've been known to order three plates each (yikes), and the bill is always $25 for the both of us. Don't miss the fried eggs and polenta if it's on the menu, and I'm a big fan of the spelt. FML.

I adore Eat. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. It lacks pretension, is green, uses simple but delicious techniques and has a constantly changing menu. Basically, it is what a lot of people are looking for these days: refined, local(ish), humble yet succulent fare. The staff is kind and the decor lovely.

Based on the editor's and readers' reviews my friend and I were expecting a bit more than we got at Eat Café. Was the food well-prepared and affordable? Yes. But the choices of dishes was very a very short list, and the serving-size seemed more like lunch than dinner (we arrived shortly after 6pm). The overall feeling of this place, from the atmosphere to the food is austere... unpretentious indeed. There was no pre-fixe meal offered on the evening we were dining, just a soup, about 5 very simple entrees (ex. frittata wedge served with lettuce, another entree was polenta and red beans) without side dishes and a fruit crumble dessert. Everything on the menu was vegetarian, but based on the review, we did not go there expecting only vegetarian options. I fully support the local food movement and appreciate the philosophy behind this restaurant, but be warned that they may not have many ingredients on hand, have a plan B in case you do not like what is on the menu that day.
