Their food is to die for. Their rotisserie chicken is heavenly and tasty. The chicken breast in lemon sauce can't be rated. The prices are insane. I been going there for years. I noved to new Jersey & still go there to eat.

El Malecon and its excellent rotisserie chicken (don't forget the lime sauce) is definitely on my list. I must say I love the breast meat just slightly dry. So satisfying. Yellow rice and red beans, another truly satisfying dish. Finally, I love the pepper steak here. Here it's sliced thin and served well done with a chew consistency, more akin to beef jerky, just the way I like it. With salsa picante, excellent! Avoid the steamed veggies. Mushy. Have fried yucca instead, with a bit of salt.

Malecon is real home cooking! I ordered the chicken tacos and black beans and yellow rice. My boyfriend got steak and he also got yellow rice and red beans, and we also ordered the maduros (plantains). This turned out to be enough food to feed us three times over. Not only were the portion sizes large, the food was fantastic. The second my plate hit the table I could smell the cilantro, peppers, fresh corn of the tortillas, and spices. The chicken was tender and well seasoned and did I mention the tortillas? They were the real deal - not the prepackaged ones you see at so many Latin restaurants in NYC. The yellow rice was perfectly cooked, not greasy at all, with lots of spices and vegetables added in, and the beans were very tasty as well. My boyfriend said that his steak was tender and juicy and it came in a somewhat spicy red sauce - but it was not an entire steak like he expected, but cut up pieces. The service was good, but it did take a while to get our food. I figured they were just making it fresh so didn't mind waiting. They had no problem taking my credit card. In fact, I left it on the table and the waiter came running down the street after me to return it. Next time I am most def. going to try the roast chicken. Probably the only place I've eaten in New York where I felt like I was having real comfort food. Also, I don't know why this says no alcohol...I wasn't given a drink menu but ordered a Modelo and it came to the table...

This place has good food but, it's nothing to write home about. I'm Dominican and was raised with all foods and flavors Dominican. I had the steak, rice and beans, maduros and for dessert the majarete. My husband had the sauteed chicken and shrimp with the same rice/ beans, maduros and for dessert the tres leches cake. He loved everything on his plate and had left overs. The steak was really nicely flavored, although a little tough, rice and beans excellent a taste of home, the maduros delicious, I would go again just for these. As for dessert, the majarete, disgusting. It was pasty, orange, soupy and sugary. This is not majarete. Majarete is yellow because it's made with real corn and more custard like. The tres leches cake was really very good. The waiter that served my husband and I seemed to be having a few miserable months and was taking it out on us. Was not friendly at all and was not concerned about what was going on at our table... Eesh. Thank goodness the manager (he seemed to be was dressed in a shirt and tie, while everyone else had on a uniform black top and pants) was very courteous and friendly and he asked us how our meal was going etc.... We did take leftovers home and enjoyed them very much. I would suggest making the ordering out and taking all the food home, except the majarete yuck, lol. Because it's just too crowded, uncomfortable and you can avoid the bad service I have read so many others have received here at Malecon. Go for take out.
Dominican NOT Cuban nor Puerto Rican

I came across this article trying to get the number for the place. This place is traditional Dominican food, not Cuban nor Puerto Rican. The seasonings are Dominican seasonings as well as the tradition. Malecon is a famous site located in the capital (best known as the place where Angelina and Brad got married) It is old Spanish with cobble stone streets and one of the oldest cathedrals in the world...being there... but that is besides the point. This place is DELICIOUS! I attend Marymount Manhattan College and travel the way across town with friends just to bring back food to the dorms for late book-hitting-nights. We love their prices for all of the food we get. Can't wait for the fall semester El Malecon.

We were there yesterday, July 2, 2009 with a party of three and we all ordered the mofongo. The service was kind of slow we thought and a few people who came in well after us had their dinners before we did. We thought that was poor service and were almost ready to leave. Then the steaming hot plates LOADED with food came out. You couldn't get better mofongo in San Juan or anywhere else. It was well worth waiting for. Then the waiter explained that it takes long to prepare. Well worth the wait, and very reasonable.

This spanish restaurant is actually DOMINICAN NOT CUBAN!!! Its speacialties are based from traditional dominican food straight from the country and my own personal opinion of what one should order when visiting this excellent tasting-restaurant is the whole chicken with white rice and black or red beans along with fried sweet plantains. For desert you can indulge in a Tres Leches and I guarantee you, you will reach heaven and come back! trust me!

Hi, This is one of my favorite restaurants. I actually know the owners and founders of this restaurant, it is actually a full Dominican restaurant. Many people make this mistakes with dominican restaurants. You can even tell by the drawings (their 175th St. location) is of the Malecon of the capital of the DR (anyone who has been to Santo Domingo would know this). Whoever wrote this article did not do enough research but is nonetheless right about the very good food of this restaurant.
