I love Mexican food. Let me clarify, I love authentic Mexican food. And when there's a place that's been open since 1959, as the oldest Mexican restaurant in New York City, I need to check it out. Upon entering, you're set in a cozy and inviting space, dimly lit, with lots of fantastic lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Before you know it, you're brought a bowl of tortilla chips and their house salsa. You can read the rest of my review with photos here: sprungonfood.com/2013/11/22/el-parador-cafe

I've lived in NYC for 5+ years, and my husband has lived here for over 20 years. We both make sure to come to El Parador at least once a month, even though it's no longer in our neighborhood. It's a fabulous dining experience every time. And that's no exaggeration. The service is impeccable, we have NEVER experienced bad service, ever. And we are continually impressed y how they remember both of our names, and even reserve special entrees for us!!! The food is awesome, we highly recommend the nachos normales and nachos royale, as well as the short rib tacos, Pollo Parador, taco tray and chile rellenos. Make SURE you try this fabulous restaurant when in New York City!

As it turns out, I love it - from this restaurant. Service was great, food was FANTASTIC and the margaritas are to die for. It's all very reasonably priced as well. I was very impressed when the waiter told us that if we didn't see a classic dish on the menu that we'd like prepared, to just ask for it. My boyfriend wanted a different kind of tomale that he didn't see on the menu and they made it for him. He said it was delicious. We will definitely be returning!

Just had a great dinner with drinks. I had the ribs and my husband has the paella. We both had margaritas on the rocks. The food and drinks were perfect. The staff perfect. We had a wonderful evening.

This used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant, until recently they lost a reservation I made for a friend's birthday. When we showed up, we were told (by the manager) that we never made the reservation. We would have waited, but the manager was beyond awful, giving me instructions on how to properly make a reservation, instead of apologizing and offering an approximate wait time. I thought he was joking. If you decide to go here, call many many times to confirm your reservation. And good luck!

Haven't been to El Parador for 15 years. Margaretta's and sangrea still great. A lot of new sea food items which were excellent. Not sure what young kids would eat. Food and service were very good. Looking forward to going back.
