Was there last night and I can see how, if you were not a "regular", you would not enjoy the service. But I was with people they knew and so the service was pure, old- school excellence, from bar to table. And the Milanese was very fine though unexpectedly smothered in ( fresh ) tomatoes. And I unexpectedly loved it done that way. Had been before and forgot all about it but I'd cross the park to go back to that place, it is worth it, I think.

Il posto e bello, la folla sembra bella, e il cibo non e male, yet the servers are very selective, if they did not like you or did not know you, they treat you like a leper and literally try to get rid of you as fast as possible. I have to admit that, to their despair, I pretended I did not notice their urgency to dispose of me. I took my time and enjoyed every minute of their frustration. If they did not like regular Johns, they should make it a private club and not make the public waste time going there. Ma poi devo tornare... just to mess with the help.

Even though we had made a reservation in person with the maitre'd the night before, from the moment we walked in, we felt like we were being rushed. We were only two people--mother and daughter--but the waiter almost scoffed at us when we couldn't decide between two glasses of wine, or a half bottle, and then walked off in frustration when we stuck with the glasses. Then, how strange it was that the dishes arrived so very fast for such an expensive place--almost to the point of being cold! But what was most unnerving, was that the bus boy kept coming by asking to take our main dishes away, when they were not even half done! And then to trump it off, when we had just began dessert, they started to wheel in a bigger table next door and the oh so wonderful maitr'd came over and asked if we could get up and move! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Excellent Italian food with that home made feeling. Menu with plenty of choices, the pastas are delightful. The tiramisu is just like the one my mamma makes! Decor somehow dated and not the most exciting crowd but I liked it a lot and it was all part of the atmosphere.

I absolutely love the atmosphere at Elio's; it's just classy and comfortable! BUT, the food, hate to say it, is terrible! Sad but true. It's also, very entertaining...people are funny to watch. You get the snobs (poor things), the class acts-tons of money-but just awesome in a crowd, and then you get the awesome 80 year old and his 22 year old date!! It's a blast! Watch for the wine glass switch-huge at the bar-size of a shot glass when dining! Always a good night out! Super fun.

My corporate friends and family used to go every week to Elios. Few years it used to be an institution but now undoubtedly is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CHEF??To begin with, our service was awful. We were seated immediately AND WERE ASKED TO ORDER quickly, but then disappeared! Other tables around us that were seated after us were having their orders taken and we didn't even get our water glasses filled. I GUESS THEY DID NOT RECOGNIZE US. ALL THE PASTAS MY FRIENDS ORDER WERE SWMING IN WATER….. MY WIFE GOT SICK AFTER EATING A SMELLY FISH WITH A SALTY SAOUCE. THE FROZEN RAVILOLI FROM THE MARKET IS 100 TIMES BETTER THAN THE ONE SERVERD AT ELIOS. NOT GOING BACK OR RECOMENDING ANYBODY. I AM SURE IT WILL CLOSE THE DOORS SOON AS PEOPLE REALIZE THAT THEY CAN SEE CELEBRITIES ON TV. ELIO, IT IS TIME TO A CHANGE AND FIND WHAT WENT WRONG DURING THESE FEW EYARS. IT IS SAD THAT ONE MORE "ITALIAN RESTAURANT" HAS GONE FSAT FOOD STYLE.

We had dinner on New Year's Day and even with a very large crowd everything was exceptional. Service was wonderful and food was great, appetizer, salad, main course and dessert. We felt like we were part of a big family, had fun and there was no pretentiousness.

We used to be regulars for years since service used to be great and delighting food. This last two years we have been going there less frequently becuase the FOOD is TASTLESS compared to what it used to be. We ordered a plate of calamari as our appetizer and were disappointed by the flavor of the sauce. The calamari were like rubers with sauce with no flavor. As my main course, I ordered the Fettuccine Amatriciana. Again no FLAVOR and the pasta looked like a flour-ball. I thought the pasta was handmade but could have heard the waiter incorrectly. My friend's fish had a rooten smell and TASTELESS SAUCE. I would not go back anymore and would not recommend to anybody! What happened, the CHEF lost the TOUCH!

I guess it helps when you know 2 people at the bar leaving and you can take their seats since the table scene is a little over crowded but either way you look at it this place is more than legit. Honestly what do you expect from one of the BEST Italian eateries on the UES? The Veal Meatball special is out of this world. Meatballs are not overwhelmingly big; they are actually rather small making it easy to work with. My date had the Fettucini speacial with Porcini Mushrooms...ridic!! The bartender was VERY friendly...I do not always expect that from upscale eateries...especially a place like this that caters to a high end crowd. If you keep your head on a swivel and you are not completely focused on your gorgeous date, as I was, you will see at least two famous faces in there. Great Date spot but could be a little busy if you are looking for a quiet night. Fantastic for a special occasion. I wouldnt go with a group larger than say 5 or 6. And if they have it...Dont kid yourself ...get the Spaghetti and Meatball special.
