GREAT place to eat in Chinatown
By keviniong on 12/31/2012
I love Excellent Dumpling House, and I have been eating here for years. My favorites are the Scallion Pancakes, Seafood Dumplings, Xiao Long Bao, and Steamed Roast Porn Buns. Excellent Dumpling House is the best place to get these dishes anywhere in the city, and it has been living up to it's name for twenty-something years. Service is very efficient, complimentary green tea is served, and it's a great, quick, cheap eat! I highly recommend Excellent Dumpling House!
No Longer Excellent
By espion80 on 11/8/2012
This place has gone seriously downhill, and it's the saddest thing. Their one good (namesake) dish was a plate of killer fried dumplings with a savory pork and cabbage filling. They were so, well, excellent that it didn't matter that everything else on the menu was filler at best. Then, new management rolled in and decided to save money by replacing half the pork with glass noodles, carrots, and ground mystery seafood. They apparently figure that nobody would notice the difference... the only problem with this gambit is that the dumplings taste like sea dung now. Don't reward these cheapskates. Go to Vanessa's or Prosperity.
Drove an hour for very average "americanized" chinese food
By nomadnyc on 9/13/2010
So I read the reviews on this site about "excellent dumpling house". The food was nothing special. Mediocre at best. We ordered pork dumplings, veg dumplings, chicken soup dumplings. We ordered broccoli , They didn't even serve chinese broccoli. Strange. So if your into finding an inexpensive authentic culinary experience in NYC's chinatown, I would look elsewhere.

Steamed dumpling...they got 'em here...delicious and cheap. A must for a hearty and cheap lunch. Good delivery service too!

the main attractions at this place, as the name implies, are the dumplings. the entrees are solid but play second fiddle. order: pork dumplings (steamed or fried), scallion pancakes, cold noodles, wontons in peanut sauce, roast pork buns (best in ny) and the hot and sour soup! can't go wrong with those. service can be a little rough around the edges but come on, it's a dumpling joint. give them a break.
Very Good Food for a Great Price

The food is delicious and the dumplings even better! Great value for the quality of food that you get. Sometimes you might be seated w/ strangers but you don't really mind when you taste the yummy food!

I went during lunch while in the area and it was packed with people. They sat me beside a whole bunch of other lunch-goers who seemed to be happily conversing with each other. Everyone was in a really good mood, and the food was delicious. The staff is always very busy and one woman sitting at our table had to wait a while for her food, but the food was delicious and well priced. The only thing I would watch for is to make sure they bill you for the right amount as they charged me for both my plate and the woman sitting next to me as well. I guess we were talking so much they thought we were together.
