What a mess. Had a reservation for 4 at 9:00 on a Thursday. All members of our party were on time yet we still were not seated at 10:00. The staff was completely unhospitable--we were not offered water, a glass of wine, an appetizer, or an apology while we waited. In fact, when we asked when we would be seated we were met by a shrug. The terrible service and unfriendly staff forced us to leave and eat accross the street.

the butter noodles with truffle came out. There had to be at least a stick of butter in the pasta that ruined the $26 dish. Everything else was great and very cute interior--so skip that dish and you will be fine!

I like the food at Falai, (in both places, soho and clinton) the baked eggs are amazing, the coffee is very good and the desserts and the breads are real fresh. I also like the decor (the chairs can be better). Although all the people are very nice the service at Falai is not that great...You may want to go there when you have time and you are not in a hurry. The owner loves food, and must be a nice person. So nice that he can not manage few slow employees. They do not have attitude, actually they are friendly and that is part of the charm of the place. But you can find yourself waiting for a long time just for a coffee... The food or the coffee can be cold... the bill will come once you are already late to a meeting.... It takes away from the friendly and cozy atmosphere... Some people do not come back. Too bad, it can be an excellent place, it has all the ingredients so please make sure the service is better and everyone is more alert and precise :)

Had a WONDERFUL meal here. Went with three serious food fans, and all of us were surprised at how well put-together each dish was. Service was not spectacularly attentive, but the food, style, and lack of stuffy-ness more than made up for it.

I was so looking forward to checking out Falai - I had heard great things. The staff was inept at best, unable to seat me at the time of my reservation and actually asked me to come back in 15 minutes, and ushered me out onto the street. When we did get in and sit down, they put us in the most unfortunate table in the joint - the one with the chair that blocks the door to the bathroom and you can see the toilet from your seat if you look to your left...then we didn't see food until 45 minutes after we had been seated. And the food was the most disappointing of all - very limited menu and the gnudi looked like green sponges with soap bubbles on top - and tasted like it, too. I can deal with crappy service if the food is going to be great, but it just wasn't. Do yourself a favor and don't buy the hype about Falai.

Amazing food, so-so atmosphere

This was the most perfect meal I have had in a very long time. I went during summer, and my meal started off with a summer-vegetable salad, which was so beautifully presented with the freshest ingredients I've had in New York. The pasta dishes are wonderful, and I had a Rose wine that was exactly what I was looking for on a hot summer's day. The meal was fairly pricey for the amount of food and the plastic chairs did not give anything to the atmosphere, but the quality and presentation of the food, in my opinion, made up for any of these weak points.

I heard about this place couple of time in the past and last Friday I decided to spend my birthday: it was very nice. The food was excellent, the risotto with red beets and lobster was amazing. It comes after the "crudo of Nairaghi", a fish from Hawaii prepared as a sashimi: wonderful. My Italian husband after tasting the "pappardelle" pasta wants absolutely to come back. I really appreciate the service: they reserved me a nice table closed to the kitchen and the idea to serve bread during the course it's great. The breads is amazing. I'm sure I will come back soon. I think this is a nice place for special dinner but also for casual dining.

Pretty trendy place, pretty mediocre service, interesting food

We went for dinner with my wife after having a really nice breakfast at Cafe Falai a few weeks earlier. The place was small, which is fine, but the service was pretty awful, with the waiter not once coming over to ask how the food was. Overall the dining experience was below average, which is a shame, given that the food is interesting. The prices do not merit the size of the portions. Oh, and did I mention that the service was awful? I do not plan on going back, although I am sure that others will, given that it is such a trendy place.

I went to Falai last night on a special date and was extremely disappointed. I have had tremendously positive experiences eating at their lafayette location for brunch so i gave dinner a shot. I currently am recovering from being very sick after eating the rabbit on the menu. Not only am i sick from eating there, i was very disappointed with the food. I ordered a salad as an appetizer that was way too salty (and i like a lot of salt - i'm pretty sure i've never not finished something for being too salty) and the rabbit was prepared (besides undercooked) with a sauce that I would compare to a chicken entree at a mediocre wedding hall. The amuse-bouche's were the best part of the food there, so maybe skip ordering and get the free stuff cause that's all that's worth eating. Aside from the food, the service was extremely slow (especially considering it wasn't packed) and i was stuck sitting next to the cold door even though i had made reservations they gave preference to others.
