LOL, Fabio Trabocchi is not Gordon Rumsey! Thank God he isn't, he is such a superior chef, his food is so superior I cannot even bare to place their names in the same sentence. Too bad Fiamma is no more, but Fabio is still around (yes, we share same name, but that is all there is to it), I caught him a few times at the Four Seasons. He is an amazing chef, I loved how he kept creating amazing reinterpretations of Italian classics and the unique food of Le Marche. Of course, he doesn't play the jerk on TV, so this is his weakness I guess for clueless writers of restaurant reviews

The excellent food, with exquisite presentation and incredible service that is never overbearing puts a smile on your face. My wife and I recently tried Scarpetta and Convivio, and none of them left an indelibile impression on us. Fiamma on the other hand made us both rush to our computers to write extremely well deserved reviews.

Fiamma was recommended to me and my wife by one of my collegues. He frequents there often since Mr Trabocchi took over back in August. I have to say it was beyond my expectations on every level. From the staff at the door, who were warm and accomodating, to our great waiter, who eased us into the pre fix menu (you can choose from both sides of the menu and mix and match your courses as you please). The sommelier introduced us to an inexpensive Barbaresco ($95, I didn't even know they could be this price point). And then the food arrived!! We were speechless thoughout our entire 2.5 hour meal! All dishes had a harmmony of their own, melt in your mouth and left you asking for more. I can't say enough about this well kept secret in SoHo.

I was given the task of planning a birthday dinner for my very difficult father-in-law. While doing research I came across Fiamma as something we all might enjoy. And what a great decision! From the point when I actually made the reservation onward Fiamma did a wonderful job of making sure the night went off without a hitch! We were greeted with a warm Â“Happy Birthday!Â” by the hostess, then seated at a large, round table for 6. We all decided order the 5 course menu with the wine pairings, which, as the previous review reported, were perfectly matched to compliment each dish. Our server let me switch the pasta dish (a flavorful tagliolini with sausage, mushrooms, and black truffles -I stole a taste from my husbandÂ’s plate) for the chefÂ’s signature lasagna. The sommelier was quick to come up with a new wine pairing for the dish as well. The staff did bring out my father-in-lawÂ’s dessert with a candle, and really made an effort to make him feel special and the occasion acknowledged all night. HeÂ’s not easily pleased or impressed, but he left the restaurant glowing that night.

I had been to Fiamma numerous times when Micheal White was at the helm and really liked it, I've been holding out trying the new incarnation due to mixed reviews. Now that I've been twice put me in the Holy Crap, These Guys Rock Camp! The 1st time I went was a business dinner and for sake of ease opted for the 5 course menu with wine pairings (which were spot on to my novice palate). The 2nd time was with my wife and her sister, they went with 3 course and I again had the 5 course menu (it was completely different than last time.) Our waiter said that they change the menu every day and it was pretty cool that we that we didnÂ’t need to have the tasting menu for the whole table. From the hostess downstairs to the guy in the suit that chatted with us and remembered me from last time, service is tip top. Not ridged and quick with a smile. Get the carpacchio and lasagna, it ainÂ’t like what mama used to make.

I have been here before and it was excellent. What happened? Was it the three star rating? The service was snooty and the food was not good. My main course was a small piece of meat surrounded by five medallions of lard! Our wine sat behind a screen and sat and sat and sat. We had to demand that it be kept on the table. The manger was even more pretentious then our waiter. When we told him our concerns he was indignant. Please return to your old form.

Following a recommendation for a great experience this was hugely disappointing. We were kept waiting half an hour for our table, even though the restaurant was not full, and a further 10 minutes before the menu arrived. With a compulsory minimum of 3 courses, and limited choice it was hard to decide on our meal. The wine list was extensive, but massively overpriced. The service was far too slow and theatrical for the food that was at best average, the air-conditioning had a mind of its own and the mens restroom had no handtowels. By this stage we were past caring and left, having paid only for the food - even the managment seemed embarrassed by their poor efforts.

Our two meals were a perfect exaple of what NOT to do with Italian food. In particular the fondue was as heavy as liquid lead, the main courses miniscule and overly sauced. I am reminded of the nouvelle adage, "Took longer to describe than eat." Perhaps the other reviewers went to a different restaurant. All form, no substance!! NEVER AGAIN!! Having lived in Rome 5 years, I can testify this was not as good as the cheapest osteria in Italy.

I've been a big fan of Fabio Trabocchi. Been to Maestro several times. When he left I was really sad. Fortunately, I go to NYC a lot, and went to Fiamma last weekend. The menu is very similar to Maestro, and happy to report that the food quality is still good as ever. I wish there were more freebies, like in Maestro, and the wait between courses is still pretty long. The five course meal is a better value. My favorite dish was the roasted Ossabow suckling pig.

I went here with my girlfriend, and we were the first ones there. Since, no other customers were around, about 10 of the staff was basically standing around with their eyes on us. The service was very attentive, but knowing so many people were watching you was intimidating and uncomfortable. Aside from that, I have to say the food was delicious, although the portions were small and expensive. If I ever go back, I will make sure to go at a time when more customers are there.
