I've been going to fig on the UES for quite some time now. Reading these reviews prompted me to join up with this community. Yes, Fig has had it's struggles. Especially with service. A year or so ago it was pretty horrible. Since then they've gotten a new manager and replaced the staff. I even bumped into the owner the last time I was there. They're putting a lot of time back into the lexington avenue location and even adding cocktails. Which make life a lot easier working at bloomingdales down the street. With the improvement I suggest you at least give it a try. Good fun spot at night and a great lunch.

Roach on my head!

to start, the restaurant smelled like they had mopped the floor with old mildewy mop water. ok, it's nyc, we deal. the food was ok, not that special, and overpriced. 6 tiny pieces of cheese for 18$?? service: they cleared the plate before we'd finished, and later cleared 3 dinner plates while the 4th person was still eating. Rude. It was noisy, hard to talk. ok, still it's nyc. the final straw was that a large roach was crawling on the wall right behind my head, promtping me to jump out of my chair and feel like vomiting up everything i had just eaten. (ironically, they post a grade A rating on sanitary conditions in their window) when the manager came out, she said it was because "of the snow" that the roaches were coming in to the restaurant. she offered me an alcoholic drink and that was it - this was insulting. like i'm gonna want to sit there sipping on some drink while my friends sit by waiting for the next roach? at least offer the whole table a drink. what she should have done was offer us a gift certificate to return another night, or take some money off the bill - especially with all the other diners tuned into what was happening there. not that i would go back - i would not. but that would have been the correct way to handle the issue. perhaps the other branches of this restaurant are better? i don't know. but i would skip this place - too crowded and noisy, overpriced, food not all that, and clearly, roaches on the walls and who knows where else.

They tricked us - $45 entree????

Went with a friend last night and the food was good, BUT they screwed us on the special. The introduced the two specials and didn't share the price and we didn't ask (our mistake!) thinking a special wouldn't be too much more than their average entree price (mid $20 range). Well the fish my friend ordered turned out to be $45!!! It was nothing special either. If I want to spend $45 on an entree I am going to Daniel not Fig & Olive. Needless to say we felt duped and I will never go back there again. Telling all my friends too.

Best of the locations

This cozy eatery is tucked away on busy Lexington Avenue. The small space is intimate yet comfortable. And such is mimicked in the food. A great place to eat or just grab a snack and some wine, this location is by far the best. The Crostinis are all light and a perfect treat. The service is so-so but other than that, I would definitely recommend the Fig & Olive.

July 2010- Surprisingly disappointed in the west 52nd Street location. It was a Thursday evening and we were a party of three 30-something adults. The restaurant was extremely noisy - so much so we could barely hear our waitress. She wanted to take our dinner order about 5 minutes after we sat down. No kidding. The maitre di was constantly hovering nearby, looking at his watch & at us. When the waitress brought over dessert, after a "relaxing" 45 minute dinner she didn't even ask us if we wanted coffee or tea! And she was definitely not a new waitress. On our way out, we mentioned this to the gentlemen at the front who did seem sincerely apologetic. With so many restaurants to choose from in NYC - this one is off our list.

Planned a little date night during restaurant week with the Mrs. We went a little early on Friday night and were seated right away at a very empty dining room which filled up within about an hour. Our appetizers were very simple olives and a few crostini, both very pleasant. The sampling of olive oils with bread they gave us was ok....the bread wasn't good dipping bread though. Our main courses were a truffled chicken breast which was very tasty and well presented. My wife ordered the lamb chop special which was very well prepared and presented. The dining room is very nice and has a very chic-country kind of feel to it. I would go back.
