Mediterranean Flair in Mid-Town

It was Restaurant Week last week, and I felt obligated to support one of NYC's greatest community events. Honestly though, I just felt like pigging out over a meal that would have normally cost an arm and a leg. Thankfully, my experience at the earthy Fig n Olive only cost two thighs (literally). This restaurant is my favorite. The decor is absolutely beautiful - classy without trying too hard to be trendy. The food is outstanding. I especially love the crostini with ricotta, prosciutto, and fig. The lamb kabobs with Greek yogurt are also fantastic. I've come here every year to celebrate my birthday...definitely a must-try in NYC!!

Nice Decor, Horrible Food

Tonight, My friends & I had our monthly dinner, this time we selected Fig & Olive on 13th street. Although we had our reservation & I got the reminder call from the restaurant in the morning, when we got there they could not find it in their reservation list! But it was not a big problem, because the place was not even half full. The space has a nice decor, foods got presented in nice small dishes in very small portions. To our surprise, Food was horrible! I had Avocado & crab soup which was totally tasteless & nonsense! There was only one small piece of crab & no taste or trace of avocado! same as cucumber soup my friend ordered. For the main dish I ordered paella, it sounded good in the menu, but rice with red pepper replaced everything else a paella should have. Foods were blend & had no character and flavor. None of us liked the food at all. When our waiter asked how is the food, we were honest & told him about our experience, he politely said I am sorry, I know what you mean! I guess it was not his first time he was hearing costumers dissatisfactions about horrible food.

this place is spacious and nice! Decent food, we went for brunch. SMALL panini sandwiches. Yummy Lychee martinis. The female hostesses, were not the mostess. I cannot stand better then thou attitudes!! Just do your damn job ladies! I even said goodbye to them and I did not get a reply. I would have given this place better ratings if people were NICER, is that so hard???

Good food, good value, pretty place, yet still something missing

We went on Saturday night and the food was quite good. The space is beautiful. The service is rushed. The waitress kept coming up and the mains came with appetizer plates still on the table. The clientele is total B+T. Which might explain the rushed service. Would go another time but never on the weekend. Had some crostini's which were very good and then we both had fish dishes. Well cooked, well seasoned and quite enjoyable. Wine list is reasonable but small. No go all out wines on the list but a bunch of nice drinkable stuff. One odd thing, since both of our main dishes were cooked with figs, we really weren't in the mood for dessert. So we passed. Plus, we really couldn't see ourselves relaxing over coffee and dessert with someone coming over to rush us out of our chairs. All in all, we liked the food, we liked the ambiance and we laughed at the clientele.

I have been to this location 4 x (Meatpacking) I have to say the service has been on point and the food excellent!!! The staff also has been great with attention. My last visit was Easter sunday and the waiter was excellent, we ordered wine which he suggested, we were not pleased with it . He took it back and we ordered another one which was great. They did not charge us for it, Right up to the desert was great, if you like chocolate then order their mousse!!!! I have told everyone who is visiting the city to go there for Brunch I am sure dinner is just as good too!!!

I was there last week. I had the salmon and a ham/goat cheese starter; I enjoyed both. This is not necessarily the place for you if you have a gluten allergy (the olive oil tastings are a bit of a waste if you cannot eat their wheat bread--and, though this should come as no surprise, the restaurant will not let you bring in your own corn/potato/rice bread). The space is very cool, and our server bent over backwards to make sure that we had a good dining experience.

I really enjoyed the food here, but was put off by the snootiness of the hostess. They seemed to act as if they were doing us a favor by seating us!!!

Fig & Olive in Meatpacking is a large, wonderfully decorated and enjoyable space. This is not a place to go to eat, but rather a place to go to and then eat and drink. The Italian/ Mediterranean food is like the decor, something to enjoy during conversations. And yes the sound level is low enough that one can conduct a conversation. Starters are perhaps the best items on the menu. And the special drinks are great. Enjoy.
