Great food, crazy service

Though the food was good, the service really put a damper on the experience. The waitress hovered, came back every 5 minutes hurrying us along even when there was food still on our plates and I was chewing. The bus boy clearing the table next to us was so intent on clearing the plate he nearly chipped the woman diner's tooth as he knocked into her glass with the plate. Though I do not agree with it, I understand that restaurants don't want people with a small tab lingering, but getting the bum's rush was enough to ruin what could have been a great meal.

Service: Though we had a reservation we waited for nearly half an hour before we were seated upstairs. When we did get to our table there were nearly half a dozen empty tables. My only guess is that because they were understaffed they had empty tables but not enough waiters? The staff was pleasant so I don't fault them, however though our reservation was for 2pm it wasn't until 3pm that we even got our drinks. I'm a former waiter so I'm generally patient and understanding. The lack of attention our table received throughout the meal was not the fault of our individual waiter but the result of the whole restaurant being in "the weeds." Decor: Both upstairs and downstairs were terribly loud. It was difficult to even have a conversation with the person sitting across from me. The track lights and the faux stucco didn't do it for me; they looked more Bocca Raton than UES. Yes, I've seen worse but for the price I was expecting more. Food: We all had the pre-fix brunch. The best were definitely the appetizers. My chicken samosas were good but not spectacular. I also tried my mother's gazpacho which was also very good but not spectacular. For the main course I had the cod and it was dreadful. If I wasn't so darn hungry I wouldn't have eaten it. The vegetables were practically raw and the sauce just unappetizing. The other entrees weren't much better. However mine was clearly the worst. I got less than what I payed for and this was restaurant week!

Really lovely place

We were served the classic fig and olive brunch with delicious combination of jamon, goat cheese and...of course... the figs. The food was very tasty and the place is to be recommended. However, to our full surprise, we were told that the bread basket (in any form) is not complimentary with the brunch menu. It is all fine, but not expected with this class of restaurant! Otherwise, tasty satisfaction.

Fig and Olive is a beautiful restaurant with a casual and modern yet classy atmosphere. The menu offers something for everyone. I ordered crostini, each of which was a perfect combination of flavors. The prices are extremely reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant and I cannot wait to go back.
