I disliked this place so much (after reading the great review here), that I had to register to the site to voice my opinion. I've never disliked a place so much that I'd do something like that. The place looks nice, but that's about the only good thing I have to say. First complaint was that they didn't have the beer I ordered. We both went simple. Burgers. Not only were our burgers cold, but so were the fries. And I'm not a big stickler for warm food. They were REALLY cold! So cold that the cheese had already solidified. Why would the burgers and fries be cold if a) we ordered the same thing, taking the same amount of time, and b) they came out fairly quickly. We also sent back our side of mustard greens, because there were literally 4 stalks of mustard greens. Four stalks of mustard greens for 6 dollars? My impression of this place was that DUMBO is not known as a culinary mecca, so people's expectations are low. That's the only excuse I can come up with for how this place is still open.

Last night we went to an art opening of mezzeart.com at Rebar in Dumbo and wanted to have dinner after in the neighborhood. Went to 5 Front and had an excellent meal in a sweet outdoor setting and had wonderful grilled calamari salad, entree of scallops also cooked perfectly, endive salad with pecans and grapes lightly dressed and just right, and the best crab cake I have ever had--better than my own, which hurts to say! Service was right on, even down to our server , without being asked, immediately moving a table of diners who started lighting up cigarettes (they moved to another outdoor area and no smoke drifted our way). We will be back! Indoor decor neat, and space intimate. I would come here over many lower Manhattan restaurants. Bravo to this group for doing so much that is right, but pls get more comfortable chairs. Now if they would just share their crab cake recipe...

We picked Five Front based on the stellar reviews on this site. What a disappointment. Mediocre food, bland wines and no ambiance. The place was packed and had the sound of a muffled swimming pool. The staff was wonderful, however. I don't know where else the other reviewers eat, but this place certainly does not deserve a 9.8.

Wow. Perfection. Just had wonderful experience at 5 Front. Food was perfect and reasonably priced. I almost felt guilty when the bill was presented to me for a price fix of $19. I had a bowl of mussels in an outrageous curry sauce as an appetizer with an excellent fish and a carmel cheese cake. All for $19 and delicious. Atmosphere was perfect and their outdoor patio is beautifully landscaped. Perfection and a place I will return again and again. Kudos Paul and the rest of the gang for bringing us in the Heights another gem to match your Park Slope restaurant.

Good, unpretentious food (delicious short ribs, steal-worthy chicken fingers for kids, light, subtle desserts, especially the subtle combinations of flavors, such as lemon and ginger mousse. This very picky eater has never been disappointed. The friendly, low key staff seem carefully trained, as they actually anticipate what I might want before I think to ask for it. I usually just order wine by the glass, since the selection is informed and wide-ranging. I come here for different reasons: romantic dinner, a good meeting place for our Manhattan/Brooklyn friends and at the weekend, brunch with the kids (yes, weirdly, despite having 3 kids, I actually manage to have the odd romantic dinner with my husband!). Because this is a restaurant with lots of seating areas, we don't feel we're coming to the same place...There are good choices of moods: from the casual crowd at the bar to the chic main dining room to the more intimate Asian-feeling rear room to the huge garden, where we love gaze at the stars though the ribs of the Brooklyn Bridge.

I predict that Five Front will be my neighborhood favorite after just a few more visits. It is warm, open and comfortable, serves a delectable brunch and all of its offerings are reasonably priced. If you haven't tried it yet, you should.
