We just attended a wedding reception in the back garden. The food was the best I have ever had a wedding. The family style platters were generous, the courses excellent and the wait staff attentive. It was a lovely evening, a trifle warm and humid, but a great way to celebrate the start of a marriage. The prosciutto was like butter!

It was such a disappointment considering the things we have heard about this restaurant. We had to wait an hour for a table, which would not have been bad except that there was, on average, four tables open the entire time and their waiting area is almost the size of their restaurant. The service was cold. They do not take credit cars and do not have an ATM, even though our bill (for two) came to over eighty bucks. The host was rude. Maybe it is just us, but it is really annoying eating at a place that seems to go out of its way to make you feel unwelcome, especially when the food is really good, but not spectacular. Whatever the case, we are not going back.

I have been here a number of times and despite many long waits, I have always enjoyed it. As a vegetarian, I have found many good options...fava bean pasta and the avocado/beet salad are current faves. Most of the staff is pleasant if not delightful but there is one host who can ruin your evening. Towards the end of a rather early dinner in a not-as-crowded-as-usual dining room, he slapped our check down as he was clearing our entrees. When we asked about dessert, he sighed and said we could have it "if [we were] timely"! I haven't seen him there since so maybe he's since departed. Let's hope so.

Long gone are the 90s when it was cool to be snotty and ask patrons to dish out cash for horrible service and mediocre food. Get with the program. I left work in midtown and met some friends there for a bite. I thought I would get a chance to relax. HA! Forget about relaxing at Frankies. I've been 10 times and I'm done. And cash only? Get a credit card machine. It's 2008. I don't walk around with $300 cash in my pocket. It's suspect. Skip it.

I thought everything about this place was great until the bill came and it was cash only. A place that has entrees in the high teens and low 20's and bottles of wine that cost over $100 should not be cash only. It's just ridiculous. What makes it even worse, however, is that the restaurant doesn't even have an ATM on site. I had to walk three blocks to find one. I will probably never go back just for this reason. I mean, Aurora in Williamsburg is annoyingly cash only, but at least they have the sense to have an ATM on site.

With the F train softly rumbling by on the elevated platform in the background, this charming little Brooklyn gem feels transported back half a century. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, if sometimes crowded, and the food's fantastic: The sausage and peppers over polenta is hearty and crave-worthy, as are the roasted veggies and the beet and avocado salad. Cavatelli's sweet and satisfying, there are several satisfying cheeses to choose from, and the bread (from Sullivan St Bakery) is soft, chewy and addictive. Downsides, imho, are the crowds some nights, that when it's busy sometimes they refuse take-out orders, and that it's cash only. Otherwise a great find.

I had heard great things about Frankies, so went to check it out. The staff were friendly enough, although the service was just ok. I found the menu misleading & a little hard to read. When ordering the sweet sausage & polenta, I hadn't been told the sausage was crumbled on the polenta. Had I known, I would have ordered something else. It was like eating saus. & pepper flavored farina. The avocado & pesto crostini was excellent although not enough, they could've put some of the avocado onto another crostini for satisfaction. I found all the portions to be a little on the small side. The pork brasciola was small, but AWESOME, it just needed pasta to go with the sauce - would've been perfect. To have a complete meal you'll spend $20 easy, more if you're drinking.

Not a hello, our table was pointed out to us, order taken, order delivered, check paid, not a thank you, not a smile, not a a word more than was necessary to execute the business transaction. soulless. The staff needs to be taught the difference between service and hospitaliity.

A group of us had brunch at Frankies's. The french toast was damn good, but the rest of the food looked less good. Nice atmosphere, and I would definitely go check it out for dinner. One big disappointment was the Bloody Marys. Our waitress STRONGLY insisted that the Bloody Marys were "Fantastic" or "Fabulous", and they were much lesst than that. I just get put off when people outright lie.

This is an intimate place for dinner with a date or close friends. Great wine list and antipasto/little dishes. Always our favorite place for dinner. Try the arugula and mozzarella salad or pork sandwich!
