Sneery service

Nice place . Food was average to good. We were a party of 4 Monday lunchtime. We all found the service - at least the guy waiting our table - less than impressive. Superficially efficient , he appeared to find waiting and/or our party beneath him. It was not a good vibe - in fact it was more than a little creepy

Being a big fan of Prime Meats, I was anxious to try Frankie's. The decor was cozy and inviting, while the food and wine list were outstanding. Try the beet and avocado salad and gnocchi with marinara. Delish! The service, however, could have been better. Aside from the smug (and slightly annoyed looking) host, the staff was friendly, albeit rather inattentive. I went on a quiet Monday night, but the drinks, the food, the bill...everything seemed to take a loooong time. Regardless, don't let that stop you from going!

Good food, snotty service

Rude, rude, snobby staff made us feel most unwelcome. Although the food was good, the attitudes and lack of basic, human pleasantries of the staff ensured that Frankie's will never see us again.

Frank Falcinelli and Frank Costronovo score with the sister restaurant of Frankies 16

Have you ever experienced a moment, a trip, a date, in short a period in time where everything is just right. Everything seems to be firing on all cylinders and it could not be more perfect? Frankies 457 is one such example. The moment you enter, you are greeted by a long, dark wood bar, a few tables at the front of the restaurant affording diners a view through their large, old-style, storefront window of everyone walking past. You walk past the bar/open kitchen and are seated in a small intimate dining room warmly illuminated by antique-looking light bulbs reminiscent of the old speakeasies. The food on their menu is Italian. The dishes are simple, yet extremely satisfying and bursting with flavor. Start with the lentil and smoked bacon soup. It's rich in flavor and smoky goodness. Follow it up with their cavatelli with faiccos hot sausage & browned sage butter. One biteful and you are hooked. The sweet sausage, roasted red peppers & onions over pine nut polenta or the pork braciola marinara are guaranteed to please the most discernible diner. What about the service? Well, Frankie's does not disappoint when it comes to service. From the wait staff, to the bartenders. to the hosts and owners, you will rarely encounter such friendly, efficient and attentive service. My advice, whether you live in Brooklyn or in Manhattan, get you fanny down to Frankies 457 and enjoy some of the best Italian food in an intimate, casual setting.

Good Food Collides With Rude Management

V-Day Dinner was Pre-Fixed (the usual in NYC for V-Day) and the back alley detached outhouse with exposed brick was quaint. Seating was thirty-minutes late. Our waitress was polite. The pleasantries of the evening ended when the manager informed us that they had another party waiting in the wings for our table and "not to be rude, but could we help them out by moving it along. The bill had to be paid cash though reservation was taken with a CC.. After a spirited discussion we paid $350 in cash. This restaurant needs an attitude adjustment and a appreciation for customers. All the good sausage and meatballs in the world won't save them from the bad reviews and discontented patrons!

We just attended a wedding reception in the back garden. The food was the best I have ever had a wedding. The family style platters were generous, the courses excellent and the wait staff attentive. It was a lovely evening, a trifle warm and humid, but a great way to celebrate the start of a marriage. The prosciutto was like butter!

Food not worth the trouble

It was such a disappointment considering the things we have heard about this restaurant. We had to wait an hour for a table, which would not have been bad except that there was, on average, four tables open the entire time and their waiting area is almost the size of their restaurant. The service was cold. They do not take credit cars and do not have an ATM, even though our bill (for two) came to over eighty bucks. The host was rude. Maybe it is just us, but it is really annoying eating at a place that seems to go out of its way to make you feel unwelcome, especially when the food is really good, but not spectacular. Whatever the case, we are not going back.

I have been here a number of times and despite many long waits, I have always enjoyed it. As a vegetarian, I have found many good options...fava bean pasta and the avocado/beet salad are current faves. Most of the staff is pleasant if not delightful but there is one host who can ruin your evening. Towards the end of a rather early dinner in a not-as-crowded-as-usual dining room, he slapped our check down as he was clearing our entrees. When we asked about dessert, he sighed and said we could have it "if [we were] timely"! I haven't seen him there since so maybe he's since departed. Let's hope so.

Long gone are the 90s when it was cool to be snotty and ask patrons to dish out cash for horrible service and mediocre food. Get with the program. I left work in midtown and met some friends there for a bite. I thought I would get a chance to relax. HA! Forget about relaxing at Frankies. I've been 10 times and I'm done. And cash only? Get a credit card machine. It's 2008. I don't walk around with $300 cash in my pocket. It's suspect. Skip it.
