Weirdly slow service, overpriced

We had a nice time here last night. The kale appetizer was really great, and the liberal use of sea salt in all the dishes is tasty. However, it took us two hours to get our pizzas, one of which was burnt on the bottom. My friend's beer was tiny, and all of the wines were uninvitingly expensive. Our server was nice but it was weird how she didn't really respond when I told her that one of our pizzas wasn't that good. If you do go, get the buffalo mozzarella and sausage pizza. Avoid the boring cheeseless pizzas.

the prices are RIDICULOUS for the amount of food you get. i paid $15 for stuff shells and honestly, i counted FOUR SHELLS (not the big ones, either), presented on a SMALL plate. the other appetizer was RIDICULOUSLY SMALL for it's price too. the expensive coffee $3.50 SMALL CUP arrived NOT HOT ENOUGH (does that mean $7 for TWO CUPS??????). no refill was offered (at $3.50 per, one might expect that). the pizza edges were black and we had to saw it into portions becase they gave us a giant (extremely thin) pizza UNCUT. that was a chore. real bad presentation. the $8 dessert: shockingly small (too small to share). these owners might have a good idea in some way, but are DELUSIONAL on portion size & price. i'll not go again - don't get their concept of STINGY PORTIONS. FRANNY'S WILL OVERCHARGE YOU A LOT FOR FOOD & YOU WILL LEAVE HUNGRY. THIS DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH SUSTAINABILITY, LOCAL PRODUCE OR ORGANIC. THERE ARE A LOT OF EATERIES IN NYC & BKLYN TO PAY $80 FOR 2 & LEAVE HUNGRY, ORGANIC OR NOT. DON'T FALL FOR THIS, PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!

The pizza's are $16 and tiny (Grimaldi's may not be the very best in NYC, but it is better quality, better value, and better service than Franny's). They come uncut and the service is extremely slow. The place is tiny, so you have to wait for a long time. There was one bartender for an overly packed restaurant. Once he took our order (which was a half hour after we sat down), it took him 20 minutes to bring our drinks. The manager stopped by often to make sure he isn't too busy (was she blind?), and when he said, "i'm busy but I'm doing okay.", she said, "Good. I'm too busy to help anyways". Awful experience. Never going back.

Fantabulous Pizza

The pennypinching naysayers writing reviews here are absolutely wrong. This is the best pizza in New York. No, it's not the cheapest - just the best. If you want cheap, then there are a few thousand slice joints I can point you to. This is the good stuff - fresh, thin crust pizza with simple toppings. Worth making the trip to Brooklyn whether or not you have other plans in the nabe.

Good thin crust pizza but outrageously expensive. An adult with 2 kids required an appetizer, a salad, and 3 pizzas which totaled 94 dollars before tax and tip. The day this place opened for business was a marker day to sell your Park Slope brownstone!

I have been to this restaurant several times, but have never eaten there (and I never will). On several occaisions I have tried to have dinner here, only to be confronted with an estimated hour-long wait. There are too many good Italian reastaurants in Park Slope to waste your time (Sette, Al Di La, etc). On my last visit to Franny's, it was almost 9pm on a Tuesday night. There were couples crammed in to nearly adjoining tables while three or four 4-person tables sat empty. The hostess led us to a tiny table she pulled away from another couple already seated. I kindly told the hostess that we (myself+1) would prefer to sit at a larger table. She balked, saying that other patrons would be jealous and that "it could get busy later". Rather than wedge ourselves into the "table for two", we left and had a wonderful dinner at Miriam, where they graciously seated us at a large table. I guess Franny's doesn't need (or want) the business, which is a good sign in this economy.

Whats with all the bad reviews? Frannys is a Brooklyn institution now and is fabulous, every time. Theres a reason why theres a long wait, because its that good & people keep coming back. Its not your average pizza parlor so why even compare it to Grimaldis? Its a classic, seemingly effortless restaurant that derives its ambience from the lively chatter inside, rather than overpowering music. Especially good dishes are the pizza with provolone piccante & onions; and the bucatini (thick spaghetti). And the wine, oh, the wine... you will always have amazingly bewitching wine here, and dont be afraid to ask the server whats good for your palate. I find the service great--theyre casual and friendly yet professional. They always have new seasonal appetizers that are the true genius & keep me coming back to see what they come up with. True, the wait can be long, so show up early. Its not a cheap eat so dont expect that. It will be worth it.

Terrible service and over-priced wine list

Our waitress rolled her eyes at our mispronunciation of an item on the menu. She was horrible throughout, giving little attention to her tables and a large doses of attitude with every interaction. It was a painful night, and we regretted bringing our friends here. We would never go back there. The wine list is unimpressive and carries a heavy mark-up. Their least expensive wine is poor table wine, and is grossly over-priced. This place is an over-rated pizza joint.

Went with a large group - was more shocked to receive an invite to a "gig" by singer/waitress Sunny Ozell than to get our pizza. The food while descent was over priced.

I am a born and raise Brooklynite and you can't tell me that a $16 dollar cheese pizza could leave you hungry. It was good but the sooo not worth the price. I could easily have gone to my neighborhood spot and picked up 2 slices for $5 and those two slices would have more than filled me.
