I am a "north-American" who has traveled Puerto Rico for 35 years w/ my PR partner. I read the negative reviews on SAZON, and expected very little. Was quite surprised - - food was authentic, from the island, HUGE portions, very well priced. Drinks [mojito and martini] excellent, sangria was quite pricey, but very heavy on various alcohols. Try the mofongo, pernil, shrimp w/ rice. Appetizers were all excellent, and again, large portions. be prepared for loud music from DJ, noise level high.

This restaurant is out of business. Has since been replaced by another. We had a very bad experience with it's replacement when we went. Incredibly rude and not at all forthcoming that it was a new restaurant when i called -- would have avoided had I known to begin with.
Hopefully nymag will update this listing soon.

A great dining experience. Absolutely wonderful- from reservation to the meal- fresh was outstanding! The wiatstaff/hostess/managers/reservationist are the friendliest that I have yet to encounter in NY- having lived here for 10 years, that is saying a lot. You made to feel as though you are the most important table in the restaurant- and that is before the incredible food arrives. The fish is just so fresh- beautifully seasoned and cooked to perfection- especially great was the lemon sole and sefood stew. The food is light -heavy cream sauces are not used. The wine list was very extensive, with many price points, as was the beer list (big surprise there!). Food came out promptly but we were never rushed. The desserts were divine- the chocolate variations amazing! We weren't sure what to expect after reading the rather old reviews here, but fresh has definitely turned a new leaf and is headed in the right direction.

This restaurant has to be the freshest, best seafood place in NYC. It's prepared so well that the sauces and the sides enhanced the fish, not the other way around. It's quite rare to get good seafood in this town, because most people here don't appreciate minimally prepared fish. Even its crab claw is better than Joe's Stonecrab place in Miami.
The upstairs seatings are alot better than downstairs (unless you have a large group). It's not very noisy either.
I don't think this place is overhyped. I don't hear enough buzz, and glad it's kept this way.

after reading the other reviews - i wasn't expecting much. however, i found fresh to be very good - pretty solid all the way from appetizer to dessert (though of course the appetizer was more exciting than the entree). as for appetizers - the ceviche was good but the foie gras on halibut cheeks with strawberry was excellent (truly the highlight). the table shared the ipswich(sp?)fried oysters which were delicious though seems like something you could get for $5 rather than $17 in some whole in the wall in New England. i enjoyed the soft shell crab and striped bass entree though i thought the bass was unnecessary and a little bland. the desserts were good though i'm not a dessert person - the sorbet was yummy as well as the banana bread dessert. service was pleasant and i found the enviroment of the restaurant pleasant and not tragically hip. i think it's a place that is very safe for me to recommend to others

I have been to Fresh twice now and had the same experience. They have an interesting menu with fresh ingredients, but the actual entree disappointed both times. Both the soft shell crabs and a copia special I had were rather bland. It's really unfortunate because the entrees sound fantastic on the menu, but the end product just doesn't deliver.
The lobster roll is a must though and would be the main reason I'd go back.

Great, upbeat Tribeca spot. The entrees were all fantastic. Only major dissapointment was being seated downstairs and away from the main dining room. The downstairs is completely cold, unwelcoming and a small, undecorated space next to the bathrooms.

While the turnstiles will continue for Fresh for the fish lovers in NYC, there are lots of other options. Admitidly, there are some nice items on the menu, specifically the lobster roll (JFK's favorite), some of the other items need inspiration to fill it out. Portions are small for the price. The wine list could use an update with some of the better french burgundies to go with the fish. Service was a bit unpolished. Desserts are a waste of money.
