AN ANNIVERSARY DINNER RUINED

What a major disappointment!! I wasted a hundred bucks. It was our 44th anniversary, dinner followed by "Billy Elliott." When I made reservations, I said it was our anniversary. It went ignored. I'll never go back to Gallaghers again. We were barely greeted by a maitre'd, who acted as though we were bothering him. No smile. Tried to seat us in the bar. We said, no, the back room, which was almost empty. He seemed offended. My steak was small, tough. The service was lousy. The maitre'd should be working as a bouncer at a dance club. The steaks were laughable. Stay away from this place. Fast food is preferable. Gallagher's is living off its name. By the way, "Billy Elliott" was terrific.

. . . I would not have had to endure the horror that was Black Friday at Gallaghers.
Food was poor to mediocre. My companion ordered the Rib Eye and I ordered the Chef Special steak. Fat and grisle were more than one would expect on a $40 - $50 steak.
Service from our waiter was fair, but we had to remind him that we were ready to order. The other fellows in suits had this "grumpy old man" aesthetic and the room temperatue was uncomfortably hot.
This was topped off by Rumplestilskin (this dude was barely walking; he should not be working in such a busy restaurant) messing up the credit card payments so that I got charged twice. The business manager has assured me that the charges will be removed, but I will believe it when I see it.
The non-wait staff were pleasant and if not for them, I would have rated the service a 1 instead of 2.

We should have taken the hint when the maitre' d was rude even before we were seated. But, we weren't clever, and we stayed. My wife's steak was the worst one we ever had, and she left hungry. Yes, we sent it back, but the next one was not much better. She left the whole thing and just age the veggies and fries. The wait staff was completely inattentive and rude. For example, if you forget to provide butter with the bread, you should expect a polite inquiry. I, however, do not expect a look of disgust in return. You screwed up, not me. And why did my wife have to ask twice for a simple iced tea? Again, I guess we were rude to even ask for one. I can tolerate just about anything, as my expectations are low and tolerance quite high. Even so, this place stunk and almost ruined what was really a beautiful Valentine's day.

Unless you're getting off a tour bus from Dayton, OH and are dying to see a NYC landmark in Times Sq steer clear of this place. I'm part of a group of guys who try to hit a different NYC steak house every month. We've hit 15 steak joints over the last 2 years or so and Gallagher's was the worst overall. The service is terrible and the food almost as bad. Lobster bisque was chunky not with lobster but whatever they thicken it with. All the steaks arrived at the table ice cold. The best part of the meal were the sides but you can get good fries at McDonald's for about $2. The skeleton crew of servers seemed focused on a table for 30 (likely to accommodate a bunch of tourists arriving) and couldn't care less about us. Terrible overall.

Although we did arrive early for our booked table and at a busy time the elderly captain was not interested in taking our names - just waved us in the direction of the bar. Barman also elderly and very very rude to paying customers! After several reminders captain eventually acknowledged our existence and showed us to a table, where we waited and waited and waited - then as very fed up, decided to leave - so didn't eat!!! Then had to queue for 20 mins (!) to retrieve our coats. Prices on menu very strange - no dollar signs, just numbers - not at all clear. Have visited this restaurant several times in the past, which is why we returned but never again.

During our holidays we made a big mistake having dinner in Gallaghers, mediocre food and rude service (eating while serving the meals). And then the final insult, the bill. At Gallaghers, all you can find is rude waiters, and bad and expensive food.

Choose this place for "special" steak dinner in NYC ... GREAT FOOD and the food staff was WONDERFUL... the problem was after dinner we stopped at the bar to have a nightcap and watch a sports show on TV... RUDE bartender - couldn't be bother to serve us (and the place was EMPTY due to the Super Bowl)... Captain didn't care either. Next visit to NYC will NOT include this place , probably Frankie and Johnnies or someplace with no OLD FARTS serving at the bar! .

I'll make this short and sweet, mediocre food and unbelievably rude service(Apparently Our waiter is independently wealthy because he could care less what he makes in tips). And then the final insult, the bill. At Gallaghers, average steak, thrown at you, doesn't come cheap.

Why take the castor oil, with no saving grace. Peter Liugers this is not.

at the onset, maitre'd honored our request for a table in the main room. the waiter's were warm and friendly. one waiter suggested an off the menu selection of shrimp scampi as my wife is not a steak eater...and it was excellent. not as stuffy as peter luger's, not as snobby as rothman's
