Pasta Like Your Grandma Would Make

My husband & I have been going to Grano for over 8 years - even before it was on - nymag or heard of by anyone other than west village locals. The waitstaff are wonderful - very warm & inviting - and the brothers/owners are truly Italian - warm, friendly, and quick to remember familiar faces. We always get an appetizer to split and then we each get a pasta dish. If you are unsure of what to get on the menu - GET PASTA. I come from a very long line of good Italian cooks and the pasta is HOMEMADE - which is impossible to find (especially at a reasonable price) in NYC. We have hosted family, friends, and business associates at Grano at least 100 times - the food is always good, the atmosphere always inviting, and our guests always return on their own after coming with us. Go check it out - you will love it!!!!

My girlfriend and I had dinner here a few days ago the portions are very small, I had clams and pasta, cold minuscule clams little or no Sahara. The other meal wad egg plant parm. Not even enough for a baby. Service was good. I would not recommend this to anyone and for what you het the price is outrageous. If you love Italian, this is not for you......

My brother and I traveled to NYC after I had been there some 30+ times on business and on my own. One day, on our way to one of the city's fine museums, our cab driver recommended (among other experiences) Grano in Greenwich Village for dinner that night. I'd never been so he wrote the restaurant's address and phone number on the back of his business card. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the treatment from our waiter. Grano made a great impression on my brother, visiting NYC for his first time. I've since returned to Grano multiple times, including once with a business associate who lives and works in the city.

delicious food, friendly wait staff, just casual enough to stop by for dinner anytime no matter how you feel or what you're wearing-- it's the perfect local restaurant tried and true.

My wife and I decided to visit Grano for a pre-show, first anniversary dinner - mainly for its proximity to our apartment on Greenwich Avenue. We both enjoy the occasional Italian dinner, but are not afficinados. The ambiance was very pleasant with the staff welcoming and accommodating. We arrived a bit early for our Friday night reservation, but had no wait around 6pm (although Im sure that would not have been the case later). We each had a fine dish (she the stuffed chicken, me the Grano Pizza) and split the Grano Salad and a reasonable bottle of Chianti. My wife especially enjoyed the whipped garlic butter that came with the bread selection. My one complaint (that I kept to myself) was the Grano pizza came topped with WAY too much arugola (I essentially ate two salads that night). All-in-all, not a bad first anniversary dinner.

The specialty pizzas are tried and true. Other appetizers, pastas, and specials are hit or miss. Rich flavors, but they can be too rich. If you go to the restaurance late in the day, they will likely be out of shellfish, which cuts the menu in half. If you arrive after seven in the evening, you'll have to wait about half an hour for a table. This is still true even if you make reservations. Avoid going here for special occasions because they don't really hold your reservations they just take them. Romantic atmosphere. Polite servers, but rather neglectful.

Go for the pizza, salads, casual environment

It's a large place with an inviting pizza oven atmosphere, but I go mainly for the Grano salad (with beets, arugala and great dressing) and to share a Margarita pizza. With a glass of white wine, that's a cheap and delicious meal. The main courses aren't as good, so I stick to what I like here. The place is huge, open for lunch and dinner, an easy place to meet and eat, but don't expect much from the main courses. Two can happily share a thin-crusted pizza.
