Gusto offers lovely atmosphere and excellent service, but most of all great food that you will talk about even after dinner.

I went to Gusto last night for the first time and am ecstatic that I found it!!! It was the most pleasant dining experience I've had in a while. Friendly, efficient service and fantastic food. They also have a fabulous bar that lured us in as we attempted to leave the restaurant. We ended up staying for two more drinks. If you haven't already been, you've got to try it! My new favorite place in the Village.

One of the best neighborhood spots in the West Village!

Food is excellent, always in season, & beautifully presented. Gusto underwent a chef change in summer, but I hear that the former chef, Saul Montiel, is back in the kitchen. I've noticed a marked improvement since! Don't be intimidated by the fancy décor- staff is friendly & the atmosphere relaxed. Gusto has a unique ability to suit all occasions: I've come dressed up for a show; or shown up in jeans & tee. Rest assured, one will not feel out of place in either, as Gusto is filled w/ a mix of faithful regulars & ppl in for a special celebration. My faves: malfatti, pumpkin gnocchi, the meatballs (!), & grilled octopus - a Gusto specialty! Also, Gusto's brunch is the Village's best kept secret! There's a prix fixe for $16.95: includes 2 courses, pastries, & choice of a bellini/bloody mary!

After passing by Gusto several times I was excited to finally visit the restaurant during restaurant week. We had 8:30 reservations and all arrived by 8:40. We were told they were just waiting for someone to finish and we should be seated shortly...20 minutes later we checked in and were told becuase our entire group did not arrive by 8:30, we were responsilbe. However, during this time no tables were leaving so I'm not sure where the hostess had planned on seating us. 10 minutes later we were told it should be shorlty but were offered a glass of proseco which we gladly accepted. Another 10 minutes went by when finally a waiter came by with Proseco, but gave it to another table. At this point we were beyond frustrated, asked the hostess if perhaps ours had been forgotten about and we were told to just wait it would be out shorlty. Knowing nothing happened that "shorlty" at the restaurant we decided we were too hungry to wait any longer. When we told the hostess we were leaving he just starred at us in disbelief, never once apologizing for our wait.

To me Gusto is a perfect neighborhood restaurant - cozy, relaxed but still kinda sexy and fun. A great vibe. I've eaten here every few months since they opened and the food has always been consistent. The artichokes and grilled octopus are delicious. Anything fried or anything pasta rocks, too. The staff is friendly. Good place to eat at the bar too. Outdoor seating. I mean what's not to like?

This place is okay - but nothing special and certainly not worthy of the hype...they should spend less money on their PR team and more on interesting menu development and staff training (and, to be honest, on bolstering their wine cellar).
NYMag accused Frank Bruni of being too critical of Italian restaurants, but places like this are the 21stC equivalent of spaghetti & meatballs and cask o' chianti dining. Who can blame him?
In short: eat at Beppe. Or Il Trulli. Or...

Female chef spins Italian cuisine in Greenwich Village!

Once you walk in you are mesmerized by the black and white movie set decor! The artichoke and then the Squash blossom appetizers floored our table. We said, "Let's go home she can't top this!" But then the fava bean, mint and peccorino cheese salad arrives. We asked for seconds. Each fish dish topped the one before. The Scallops were succulent perfectly done. The whole fish was splendid. The Bolognese sauce practically made us tear up our plane tickets to Italy! The meatballs with pignolli and raisens left us at the feet of this chef goddess Jody Williams! Each dessert mirrored the main courses. We are so grateful to have Gusto and this marvelous chef. The manager George is charming. The staff follows the fold.
We can't remember the last time we found a restaurant so exciting!

the ingredients were definitely seasonal. The expertise was not as much in that as in things stayed true from there. 2 variations on artichoke dishes tasted like artichokes. All the dishes maintained the integrity of the main fresh ingredient and didn't just pay lip service to it while cooking it beyond recognition and covering it with condiment. Actually tastes like the food in Italy.
