Worst experience at a NYC Resturant EVER

My husband and I met our friends at Gynnett st last night, we had some drinks and began ordering. right upfront I explained that I had a garlic allergy. I am highly allergic to garlic and have been accommodated at every resturanturant i have been to. After given 1 option, I humbly asked if there was anything else we could do, the " manager" who turned out to be the owner was beyond rude. I was told if I don't like it to go somewhere else and that the chef was too busy to deal with this. He actually told my extremely mild mannered husband to go f&$@ himself as we were leaving. we all left in shock, confused as to what had happened. The staff was whispering and glaring at me and my apparently cardinal sin of an allergy, they were extremely rude and insulting. The owner ran behind the bar yelling get them the check, after they basically kicked us out because I dared ask if there was another option. just classless poor service. I wish there was more I could do to express how horribly the diva chef and owner treated us, but a review is all we can do. Do not go here especially if you have an allergy.

Absolutely excellent meal. Had the Lamb's Breast which was incredibly melt-in-your-mouth soft, Duck Breast again amazing with the pistachio and kumquat. The staff is lovely, the wine is lovely. Go there before the reviews start pouring in, you'll be very happy you did.

So, I have mixed feelings about writing this review. If I don't write it, and you don't go here for the atmosphere...sorta comfy ski lodgeish with that soft glowy light that makes everyone look fabulous, nor for the outstanding cocktails such as the "Second Year" (who knew I could like Cynar?!) and get blown away by the Pecan Tofu (silky, nutty savory, and seductive to a carnivore like me) although the Duck Breast was fantastic too...then I would have this lovely place all to myself. On the other hand, it's a New Year, I guess I should "gulp"...share. See you there!

We visited on a quiet Tuesday night, only a couple of tables full; the place had just opened 6 weeks ago. The service throughout was excellent- several servers took our order/brought food, all were very attentive, knew the menu, and had opinions when we inquired. Cocktails lean toward traditional rye/gin based and are very good; the wine list is eclectic and well-chosen; the sommelier recommended an Austrian red which went very well with the food. And the food is outstanding. The maitake mushroom is divine, with a thin layer of lardo on top that enhances the lightly seared mushroom flavor- an app that would be right at home at a top manhattan place twice as expensive. The special- beef with a pickled bone marrow sauce, was really ethereal- a flavor combination that again greater than the sum of its parts and was truly unique. I hope the duck with kumquats and brussels sprouts stays on the menu as well- a healthy portion which appeared rare but was the perfect temperature and very tender. And order the apple crumble dessert....you'll see. I know I'll be back.
